Cheap PAL official PSone screens - ebay

Post by bacteria »

I don't normally link to other peoples' ebay auctions, however getting hold of official PSone screens is not easy these days, and you normally pay about twice the amount this seller is asking. I just bought 3 screens from her, got them slightly cheaper still  I now have 2 NTSC and 11 PAL screens for projects.

Anyway, if you want one, you won't get them cheaper: LINK

Official PSone screens are good because they are composite and RGB, (you can mod PAL units to do S-video instead of composite if you want), stereo speakers (mylar speakers included), runs off 7 - 8.4v fine. The screen quality is very good, better than most generic screens. I use them in my projects. :P

Ooo. I think I'm gonna get two of these, 1 for my actual PSONE and 1 for a modding project I want to do (a portable n64).

Good.

I have been emailing her, she seems friendly and helpful.

She has about 100 of these screens in stock, so enough to go around at the moment.

If you guys intend to make a portable console system in the next months, it's a good time to get one of her PAL screens if you can afford it. If you guys want to make a SNES or N64 system or suchlike, I can make one on the next project, easy enough for people to follow...

I'd definately be interested in seeing a walk-through of making a portable N64, Bacteria. I did some poking around the Benheck forums and a lot of the resources suffer from being written by pro modders for pro modders, so they leave off important details a new modder would want.

Bought one, but you know what... I'm going to use it on my PSone!

Too many of these screens are hacked up to make (admittedly awesome) portables. How about we just use it as it was intended! One of these days these screens are going to be rare at this rate, and I want a good example to play PSone in bed under the covers!

Ok, for my next project i'll do an N64 and make the guide in baby-steps, if you promise to make your own portable! In the meantime, have a look on my Wordpress site - covered the N64 a while back - see what you think to it. N64 is regarded as hard to do and easy to fry - rubbish - it is easy; not the easiest, but certainly easy.

So guys, anyone who wants to make a portable N64, buy a PSone screen now so it is ready in a couple of months to start your own project!

BTW, before I started making WIP threads, they were not common...

I am DEFINITELY going to do a portable N64, it's one of the hardest systems to emulate and I'd just kill to be able to play the N64 properly anywhere I want. Especially if I can follow one of your guides Bac.

Bought my two screen, gonna keep one for my PSONE and the other is getting hacked up!

Oh, I definately promise to make an N64 portable. I'm just finishing up gathering the parts for an SNES portable ripped from Ben's book and the N64 is the last cartridge based system I need in portable form. I've got my Nomad, my FC Mobile, I'll have my SNES, and the N64 is the last system I need. I suppose I could try and make a portable SMS; I bet those are pretty uncommon (possibly with good reason).

So if this is a PAL screen, it won't work for NTSC units?

The seller had 10 earlier and now it's down to 8 at the time of this posting.

gtmtnbiker - you can get NTSC screens from ebay America - I got 2 that way. Her listing says she has 8 left, however she emailed me to say she has about 100 left in stock..

MrPopo and Niode - Great, next project will be N64 and i'll show you how to make a portable! :D MrPopo - sure, i'll do the SMS too at some stage, I have a couple of SMS consoles.
