Oh that makes it the superior format for now.
It does for me, I'm seriously tempted to find a D-VHS player than can play D-Theater tapes now.
Haha nevermind. This seems to be the average going price:

VHS is still the only way to get all of the weird old drug related/perverted Disney moments from all of their movies as they've all been edited out in all the DVD and Blu-Ray pressings.
Those tapes are long gone.
But yeah, it's amusing that they cut all that stuff out. Ever since this internet thing was invented I guess information just started moving around faster.
Yup, it's what keeps me holding on to a VCR and all those old tapes.

I've seen some D-Theater setups online before and they look simply amazing, plus it's the cheaper and easier way to record HD content straight from your cable box and or Digital ATSC tuner to watch it later on cheap blank D-VHS tapes.
Oh, and the players do an amazing job of upscaling analog VHS/S-VHS tapes too.

Bit rot doesn't happen to PRESSED media such as retail DVD's and CD's unless you've butchered them while handling, or left them in a hot car of humid environment for extended periods.
Now these discs were never left in the car or mistreated, and the manufacturer admitted to having a problem with the plastic mixture making them especially gas permeable, it will happen to 'normal' pressed discs too eventually as the plastic is still going to let gas in. If only these 2 discs were some shitty mass produced crappy top 40 bands and not horribly limited imports. The bronzing on the second one is the aluminum oxidizing, the whole top of the disc is turning orange. I have at least 4 discs like this all came from the same pressing plant.

That just sucks, but I'm of the belief that as long as I treat my media right and it wasn't subject to a error in the manufacture process it'll last me a lifetime.

I've got quite a few VHS tapes from flea markets and such for absolutely insane prices (Got the entire Burn Up W series, a few Fist of the North Stars, City Hunter and a few other obscure anime tapes for $5 bundled together). Really do love having old media around.
However, I do feel the need to get one of those VHS-to-DVD converters. It'd be a great way to preserve the stuff that hasn't ever been brought to DVD officially, and it'd be a way for me to get the VCR out of the room. It only cost me $10 and it works great, but it just takes up too much room.

You lucky SOB, I've been thinking about going down this road lately for Anime I want that's out of print on DVD and too expensive, plus they did a ton of cool art pieces with those VHS spines.
