Is the digital-out Gamecube worth more?

Post by noiseredux »

My Gamecube does not feature digital out. And I wouldn't use it anyway. But today I saw a Platinum GC with digital out (console only) for $20. I felt like that was a great deal if I needed a GC, but I couldn't justify spending the $20 to add a GC to my tradelist. Or is it worth more with the digital out?

The digital out means you can use the component cable, so I'd guess it'd add a few bucks over a regular Gamecube.

I figured the difference in price was pretty marginal?

Add to the fact that the component cable is uncommon and fetches a high price, any added value for a Gamecube with digital out would be in a pretty niche group of buyers.

true. I suppose if I had found one WITH the cable then I'd have been in business. To be honest, I may have snagged it to replace mine for the simple reason that my eject button is sticking lately. But my Gameboy Player is black, and this GC was platinum, so...

Most GC owners don't even know there's a difference. I never saw it mentioned on ebay or craigslist when I was picking up a digital model. I usually had to ask and explain.

Ya know my GameCube has digital out. I paid 30 dollars for it at GameStop because hey it was 30 bucks for a newish system? I really don't even think it's even worth anything more than one without one. Maybe in 15 years, but not now.

I've noticed that. Same with Gamestop. There's no separate price for a digital-capable or analog-only Gamecube. You just get lucky or you don't I suppose.

Like I said, it wasn't an issue with me, so I've never cared which model I had. I'm on my third Cube now. I'm sure my first was a digital because it was a launch but I had no actual use for that port anyway.

That should be an easy fix if you have a game bit. Just pop off he cover and clean out the mechanism.

Yeah, these aren't honestly worth any more than an Analog Cube because of the AV cable's scarcity, and the fact that all of the systems manufactured from '01-about late'04/early'05 feature the Digital AV out.
