Update! Official PS1 VGA Box!!! Now Wii & PS3 VGA!
Well I want one of these now: http://cgi.ebay.com/PLAYSTATION-2-OFFIC ... .m20.l1116
It looks to be a VGA upscaling box made by Sony and a company called WAKA and may be one of the coolest things I've seen lately as after finally getting a DC VGA Box I am now a VGA whore.
Just saw this on Play-Asia:

It's 3rd party, but at least we now have Wii and PS3 VGA!

Yeah, I had no idea they existed either until last night. It's either a rarity in general, or a rarity outside of Japan.
All I know is that now I'm going to try getting my paws on one!

Re: Official PS1 VGA Box!!!
It looks like this is unfortunately fairly rare. I did a Google search of the model number and found that most Japanese auctions went for $50+, and the two listings on Amazon.co.jp are for $70 used and $100 new. I'd need two of these for true optimal hookups, but I'm not willing to spend that kind of scratch on a single console's video hookup. Especially when you consider that the PS1 is going to look like ass anyway and probably is improved by a lower-quality connection.

Just curious but why would you need two?MrPopo wrote:It looks like this is unfortunately fairly rare. I'd think these wouldn't work on PS2 as the PS2 only outputs either Component video or RGB with Sync On Green when compared to the PS1's pure RGB out.
EDIT!: It may look like ass, but there's where my CRT monitors come in and make it all look natively great.

Re: Official PS1 VGA Box!!!
For $152, I can be happy with my standard A/V connections.
And aren't most people playing their PS1 games on their PS2's and PS3's now??

This is a pretty cool item if you want to collect, but S-video out of a PS1 is pretty good, and so is component out of a PS2.

Re: Official PS1 VGA Box!!!
True, but there's just some stuff that still requires original hardware, so it's a nice thing to know that there was an official option made for higher resolution displays for today's Laggy SD in an HD world.Weekend_Warrior wrote:For $152, I can be happy with my standard A/V connections.

True, in all honestly it would probably be better to get an RGB cable and an X-RGB, but it's a nice option to have if I ever feel like dropping the cash on it.Hobie-wan wrote:This is a pretty cool item if you want to collect, but S-video out of a PS1 is pretty good, and so is component out of a PS2.
