I recently got a NES only clone (picked up from stoneagegamer.com for like 15$) and though comparability is not prefect it's much more pleasant than spending 10 minutes trying to get a game to work on my toaster NES.
I decided against the Retro Duo because my SNES still seems to be working great. However, I'm interested to hear your tale on the device because I'm sure I'll want to pick up one soon for SFC games since I don't really want to cut up my SNES.
Retro Duo Questions
Re: Retro Duo Questions
My Game Genie had the tabs to prevent the insertion of Super Famicom games.Unleaded Logic wrote:If you have a Game Genie for SNES you can use it to play Super Famicom games as well.

Re: Retro Duo Questions
I have found that some Game Genies do have the tabs. But it is also much easier to take those tabs out than those in a SNES (atleast for those who dont want to open their console).

Re: Retro Duo Questions
Okay so correct me if I'm wrong. But the Retro Duo plays SNES, SNES PAL, SFAMi, NES, and NES PAL? And I need to know what the best PAL-only games are that are still in English.

Re: Retro Duo Questions
The RetroDuo plays MOST Pal SNES games but not all. I have about 30 games or so and 5 or 6 of those don't work. Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Mario All-Stars are all region locked. Most play very well in fullscreen at 60HZ
It plays PAL NES games but they are all speeded up to 60 HZ which screws up the music somewhat.
BTW I checked my Rolling Thunder NTSC-US cart and it runs well on my NES but not on the RetroDuo.

Re: Retro Duo Questions
When I get around to it, i'm going to test all my SNES and NES games on the RetroDuo on my shelf, and list what works with it. Won't take long with the NES, have 7 PAL games and 2 NTSC however for the SNES I have 84 game carts, of which about half a dozen are NTSC. I will post the results here, when I get around to it.

Re: Retro Duo Questions
That would be sweet, I'm gonna test all my games once it arrives. Maybe then we could make a legitimate, actual up-to-date compatibility list.
Anyone know if there are any pal-exclusive snes games?

Re: Retro Duo Questions
I don't know of any games that only came out in PAL and not NTSC-U or J. I do know, for example, that some games did make it to PAL that never made it to NTSC-U, such as Terranigma. I think the general state of the industry during the SNES years likely precluded any PAL-only (no other regions) games.darthmunky wrote:That would be sweet, I'm gonna test all my games once it arrives. Re: Retro Duo Questions
NES PAL Over Horizon works fine in my Generation Nex, so I imagine it would work in a Retro Duo too. I got my PAL copy a lot cheaper than all the Japanese copies I've seen.

Re: Retro Duo Questions
Well, My Retro Duo arrived today. Tested a few games. All the ones I tested did work but the NES games sound kind of weird. And the S-video with the snes didn't really do anything but darken the screen. I will test all of my games later tonight.
