So I just opened up a bunch of carts, here's the deal...

The Super Gameboy PCB is just about the same size as a full size SNES game PCB (it's actually a tad smaller in hieght). It will fit inside a SNES cartridge, however there is one small problem. Look at the pics of those opened SGB's, see those notches of plastic that hold the PCB in place (it fits in like a key)? Those aren't standard. The "notches" don't line up with that of a normal SNES cart, nor the ones found on a cart with the extra pins (such as a Super FX game). which actually has the notches in different positions.

That being said, there's a few things I thought of to get this to work. One, you can destroy the notches on a SNES cart to get the PCB to fit in. But the point of the notches are to hold the cart in place when you insert or eject it from the console. But there's always glue. One could remove the notches from the SGB cart and super glue them into a normal SNES cart. Wouldn't be too hard.

Another idea I had, which might not be so cosmetically graceful, would be to use the back of the SGB cart and the front of a normal SNES cart. Obviously the back is a lot higher, but it could be cut down and then add the top back on from a regular cart. Might not look that great, but it would work.

I'm thinking the first idea is better. I'm sure, if I did this, I'd be able to modify a regular SNES cart to accommodate the SGB PCB.

Now all that being said, I opened up a full size PCB SNES game and opened a Gameboy game. I was able to put the Gameboy PCB inside the SNES cart and close it with no problem. Removing the cartridge slot from the SGB and wiring in a Gameboy cart wouldn't be that hard, and it will be able to fit inside the cart.

The only hard part would be those notches, which I'm positive could be taken care of as I explained. I'm down for trying this. I always love custom stuff!

You gonna make a "Secret of Mana 0" label up for it too? I could get you my "template" that I use for my labels, if you don't want to start from scratch.

For the notches to hold the PCB, instead of trying to cut the ones to transplant them, I'd say just find some other scrap plastic that'll be easier to cut to fit, then expoxy the pieces in.

Yeah, I figure transplant them so they are the correct size, shape and height. My first reaction was to more or less use anything to space it correctly, then just glue the PCB in place. This isn't the best idea though, because you'd have a tough time taking the PCB out (if you ever have to) especially if you used super/crazy glue.

Anyone think it's possible to mod it into playing GBA games?

No.

The Super Gameboy actually has the Gameboy CPU in there, it is just outputted on your telly screen rather than a GB screen.

So rather impossible, perhaps you could hack a Game Boy Player (for the Gamecube) and get all the components into a Super Gameboy case, but I doubt it.

I've heard about someone building one from scratch out of a GBA SP and a snes cart. Could it be true?
