Joystiq has reported that over 200 Game Crazy stores are expected to close by the end of October.
According to a statement the publication received from the video game retailer, Movie Gallery Inc. is shutting down under-performing stores in North America in order to ensure "that there is sufficient return on investment associated with each of the stores going forward."
Approximately 200 out of the 680 stores operating in North America will be affected. At this time, there is no official list of which stores will be closing.
Stores scheduled to close (where ever they may be), are expected to begin liquidation sales this weekend. From October 3-9, everything will be 30% off, followed by 50% off all items from Oct. 10-16, and finally finishing off with an 80% discount on video games and accessories starting on October 17.
But don't start making a mad dash to your local Game Crazy store this weekend. Stores expected to close have already started sending systems, first party accessories and games released within the last year back for redistribution. So there probably won't be a lot to choose from once the liquidation sales begin.
Any customers who currently have pre-orders with Game Crazy should contact their store to find out the status of their pre-ordered item, and whether or not their local branch is expected to close.
