The year of a car is usually just a number. They don't create a new car every year. Even a complete redesign which happens about every 5 years usually has a lot in common with the previous year. Also, most people don't actually go out and buy a new car every year. Most leases are 3 years. Also, the used car industry is huge, so most cars that are scrapped were at the point of no return. Some are broken down and used for parts.trdbglr wrote:That video wasn't too bad, but the planned obsolescence stuff is simply real. The idea of coming out with a new car model every year? I mean c'mon. So much material waste right there.

You shouldn't be insulting him at all.Anubis wrote:I wasn't insulting him because he had different ideas than me, I was insulting him because he obviously has no idea what he is talking about.trdbglr wrote:Anubis, you're out of line. Re: The Story of Stuff
Now for starters, the burden of proof is on the person who makes a claim.
Also you seem not to understand my post because the non-sequitour in your posts is huge. For example:
For starters, you are the one making a claim so you should be the one giving proof of the raping not me of the no-raping. It's absurd otherwise.
Now as you can clearly read I didn't say we were not pillaging the planet and I don't need to give you proof that we have not used 30% of the resources, you are the one who must do it.
I perfectly understand what "finite" means. Given entrophy or the second law of thermodynamics there's nothing indefinite. The sun is finite, uranium is finite, our lives are finite and so on. Thus, solar energy is not infinite but it will last a lot of time. Iron will last a lot of time too, by the time it starts running out we would have colonized Mars and I can't envision someone using all the iron of Mars. Coal will run out, uranium will not, and hidrogen will not. The Earth will be destroyed before we can use all of it's quartz.
Now, on chemistry. I'm not chemist but I don't need to be one to understand some basic notions of it. I'm sorry but you don't seem to understand what a toxin is. Taken from Wikipedia:
"A toxin (Greek: τοξικόν, toxikon) is a poisonous substance produced by living cells or organisms.[1][2] (Although technically man is a living organism, man-made substances created by artificial processes usually aren't considered toxins by this definition.)"
So this claim is quite false.
Also you seem not to understand my post because the non-sequitour in your posts is huge. For example:
To which you respond:Secondly, we are not running out of ALL resources, this is an outright lie, She goes on to say that 30% of the resources have been consumed with no evidence to back it up. What does she consider a "resource"? Because it would be stupid to think we have used 30% of the planet's iron, aluminium, coal, quartz, wood and so on.
So I may be blind and idiot but I don't think I have said anything about iron being infinite, have I? I said it's absurd to think we have used 30% of the resources without even defining what "resource" is.You don't see to grasp the concept of a finite resource. Finite as limited, indefinite, definable, nonrenewable. There isn't more. Care to back up your claim that we aren't raping and pillaging the planet?

Seriously guys, they are putting SODIUM in out food! And Chlorine too! Both are toxic and one explodes in contact with water! We are all going to die!
She starts talking about BFR (Some kind of flame retardants) and says all of them are toxic. Again given how much she knows about chemistry she is wrong.
Again, you're stating a claim with even less information than her to back it up.[/quoet]
Are you seriously doubting that Sodium explodes with water?Again, give me proof that ALL BFRs are toxic, that Sodium doesn't explode when mixed with water. You are the one making a claim I don't need to prove something is false, you must prove it to be true.
Now, no offense, but you don't understand what burden of proof is or how to use it, you insult me, you don't understand what a toxin is, you don't know what Sodium is, hell have you ever seen salt? What do you think it's made of? Hell dude, are you a troll?
Now this is a videogame forum, if you want show this comic in the xkcd forums, serious bussiness or chemistry, whatever you feel appropiate.
