Hey, I'm thinking about going back to school in January and was wondering if anybody had heard anything about Flashpoint Academy in Chicago? Here is the link

I would be going for the Game Design program.

Hmm just looked at their film program. Interested me until I hit FUCKING MATH. Sorry, but unless I'm going to be working for nasa I don't need to learn any math.

It's the one subject that makes you use your brain.MrPopo wrote:What's wrong with math?

I hate it. And anything above 3rd grade level math is useless for 99% of people in 99% of daily life.

I don't know dude, sometimes I need to know differential equations to balance my checkbook.Jrecee wrote:I hate it. And anything above 3rd grade level math is useless for 99% of people in 99% of daily life.

While this may be true, you forget the majority of what you learn in school once you're a year or two out. So you're better off taking a high level math so you forget that stuff instead of the 3rd grade stuff. I can't tell you how many people I run into that have problems with simple mental math.Jrecee wrote:I hate it. Seems like it'd be easier for them to just teach the stuff you actually need over and over instead of teaching stuff you won't use in real life and have to get a tutor to pass and still pull a D thus bringing down your gpa. . .
Re: Anybody heard anything about Flashpoint Academy in Chicago?
If you're looking to be taught the stuff you actually need then you should be going to a trade school. Regular college/university is about the pursuit of knowledge in general, which is mostly stuff you won't use in real life.Jrecee wrote:Seems like it'd be easier for them to just teach the stuff you actually need over and over instead of teaching stuff you won't use in real life and have to get a tutor to pass and still pull a D thus bringing down your gpa. . .

I don't know I decided I was going to avoid math once I got to college and now weirdly crave/miss it. Also I'm a history major with 12 credits left and I've decided I really don't think I want to teach anymore....fuck my life. Moral of the story, don't be so scared of math.
