Hello All,
I was wondering if the sound quality using the VGA cable (and 2.5mm jack cable) is as good as using the actual Red/White stereo sound that comes on the composite cable.
Thanks.

Even though I had never even thought about that, it is really interesting, and I would be glad to know. And since the VGA box has just one audio cable (JACK) in my opinion it is worse...but it's just a wild guess, maybe it's even better

Correct me if I am wrong but stereo jacks have both left and right sectors in the 2.5mm plug - they are separated by a plastic ring.deathclaw wrote:Even though I had never even thought about that, it is really interesting, and I would be glad to know. So I don't think that there would be a sound quality loss from the audio cable unless it is on the VGA Box's hardware side.

Yeah that makes sense. I knew that the 2.5mm Jack could produce stereo sound, but I was always under the assumption that the jack was inferior. I probably couldnt tell the difference anyway!

As I understand it having two separate cables for each channel will give you better shielding than a single stereo cable, but you won't notice it unless you have a very high quality sound system and are pumping through very high quality sounds.

I have a very good sound system and the quality is fine. Just make sure you get a nice shielded cable (preferably oxygen free) and you'll be golden. I admit it's not as good as my optical DTS but as far as stereo sound goes it works well enough with the virtual surround option. Shenmue is particularly cool in the busy districts.
