Dreamcast Revision Question

Post by emwearz »

From my understand no PAL units are R2. Is this correct?

I have tried to burn the Utopia image like 10 times each time it just loads for about 2 minutes then goes into CD Player.

I am sure I am burning it correctly (Following Rackets guide, then many, many others). The Utopia boot Disc when in my PC shows 3 files "GURKSAFT", "UTOPIA1", "UTOPIA2" so I think I can rule burning wrong out as many other forums are seem to say that how you know it was done right.

Any advice, im pulling my hair out.

Looks like there Only 1 pal version of the DC and its Mil compatible. Maybe the lens just needs a clean? Are you burning the disc really slowly at say 4x? You may have to find an older burner or use an old PC to be able to go that slow.

I hope you didn't get a dud.

Burnt a 1X on both my old Sony IDE Burner and my more recent ASUS DVD SATA Burner.

I will try burning it with Nero as I just found it in .nrg format and let you know how I got. Man im glad it cant be Revision 2 related, but more worried the laser is shocking.

If I have those files on the CD, am I correct in saying it is burnt correctly.

On another forum I read you can test the laser by putting in a burnt audio CD, I did and it reads it and plays music. Does this mean its not the laser?

I tried the nrg format and burnt it same result, shows the 3 files but wont boot on my dreamcast.

From what I remember Nero had some issues burning Dreamcast games. I either use alcohol 120% or disc juggler. I have never had an issue burning a DC game with alcohol 120%. It has always been the other programs i use that i found out don't boot.It can burn Nero images. I think alcohol 120% has a free trial that will or for awhile. Or you can always hunt for a torrent.

Why bother with a boot disc, 90% of all isos are selfbooting.

I went the route of purchasing the imports and then burning a self-booting disc anyway.

I go either way on this as some imports are worth the hassle due do downsampling issues and others I'll do exactly what Mr. Popo did.
