PC ENGINE DUO S-VIDEO?

Post by sybnios »

Hello,

I am about to complete my SEGA MD collection and I want to start with PC Engine so I am newcomer in the NEC REALM.. My question is:

Does anyone know if PC Engine Duo has S-video connection.. If no does the RX model has?

Thanks =)

I have no idea about S-video but if you care that much about video quality, why not take it a step higher and use RGB?

The RGB cable included here is European so it won't work on a Japanese RGB port, unless you use an adapter. Alternatively, you could use an RGB to component adapter, if you don't have any RGB ports available.

Duo R and Duo RX only have composite video out without modding. However NEC systems in general have pretty high quality output. Even RF out on a TG-16 looks better than composite out on a model 2 Genesis.

FYI the only difference between the R and RX is a slight difference in the case and the RX came with a 6 button pad.

Thanks guys.

I didn't know that RGB was better than S-video. In the past I have connected my SEGA Saturn with RGB cable and I wasn't satisfied. When I purchased an S-video I was happy with the crystal clear image and vibrant colors.. Until then I choose S-video cable for all my retro consoles.

I will start looking for a Japanese RGB cable then. :)

Take care.

Oh and since you mentioned about differences.. What is the difference between Duo and Duo-R?

Thanks

Duo has a dark gray case that's a bit chunkier and apparently has a headphone jack.

Hold up. The PC Engine doesn't normally support RGB. The console will need to be modded. Check the Ebay link from earlier. That's a modded one. Also, you can't just buy a Japanese RGB cable and expect it to work either. The cable itself needs to be modded to work with it. If you contact the person selling the PC Engine on Ebay, they might be able to make you a Japanese RGB cable instead. If not, using a European to Japanese RGB adapter cable should work too.

Hopefully I cleared everything up. It's confusing -_-;

WOW! It sure is confusing but you cleared a lot the issue! It seems I have search to do! I have already sent a message to doujindance if he can find me a Japanese RGB cable. I wanted a boxed DUO but maybe I'll get the modded one now and later I'll buy one boxed for the collection. As for the European to Japanese adapter ebay doesn't have any :( Maybe I'll find elsewhere..

You helped a LOT =) I will let you know of the results soon...!

Peace

You have a Japanese RGB port but haven't been using it? If you don't mind me asking, where do you live and what kind of setup do you have?

Also, here is a link to an adapter. If Doujindance can't make you a custom JP cable, this would work for sure if you are using an XRGB.
