Dreamcast broadband with an old Airport Extreme?

Post by wip3outguy7 »

I thought of this the other day. Some of the old Apple Airport Extreme wireless routers (circular models had a modem built in. Has anyone tried connecting a 56k equipped Dreamcast and bridging the modem connection with the incoming broadband connection? Does it work?

I was about to say I could try it, but I just checked and my Airport Extreme, while an old model, lacks the 56k port. I'd be VERY interested to hear if this works. :)

Even if you could bridge the dial-up modem with the broadband, you still won't get speeds faster than 56k. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. This adage holds true for network connections. If you want your dreamcast to run fast on your network, you'll need the expensive broadband adapter. There's no getting around it.

Right, but everyone with a DC should have a modem and the Airport is plentiful. Broadband adapters are not.

Even if you're only getting 56k speeds you can at least get it hooked up. It's harder and harder to get a phone modem going these days.
