Video games that you wanna see as board games

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Video games that you wanna see as board games

Post by REPO Man »

And FYI, I'm using "board game" as a blanket term for board games, card games, dice games, etc.

I'll go first:

ROCKBOARD

Now, it's pretty much already a board game. And I can just make this myself if I know all about each board, the rules, et cetera. Can someone point me to a website, plz?

GAUNTLET

By using a modular board, one can make dungeons to solve. Basically, it's like D&D lite ("lite" meaning "no leveling up, no inventories, no custom characters, etc").

MARIO PARTY

The only thing that requires imagination in translating to a non-digital format is the miningames. Essentially, just create new ones. Some games would be card games (using one, if not one of a few, deck(s)), some would be card games, and such.

STREET FIGHTER/MK/SOUL CALIBUR/ETC

This would be a card game, utilizing a generic game system, a standard poker deck, and translating the elements of the games into the system.

I've done this twice. The first was a generic card game inspired by a card game called "Card Shot", and the second was basically a simulacrum of 1on1 fighting between fictitious characters.

I've just gotta combine, alter and tweak them into a single system. And since the system is generic, there's no rules on matchings (i.e. you can pit a MK character against a SF character).

And I can further spin it off into a game to simulate 4-player melee fighting (think Power Stone, Super Smash Bros).

CRAZY TAXI

I've already got a concept for a generic tabletop game system that utilizes toy cars for car-based gaming.

The system can accommodate Crazy Taxi.

TWISTED METAL

Using a variation of the system from above, albeit with combat elements.

BURNOUT/F-ZERO/ANY RACING/CAR GAME

A variation of the car system.

GRAND THEFT AUTO

Basically, the car system with room for on-foot moving (using minis for people, and altering the way they move). Throw in combat (armed and unarmed), and turn it into a pen-and-paper RPG.

One can do this with any other GTA-style game (Crackdown, Saint's Row, to name a few).

RESIDENT EVIL

Basically, a variant of "Zombie Plague".

PORTAL

A puzzle-based board game. One person sets up the board, while the others must solve it.

Now... does anyone have any other concepts?

You mean they haven't done this already? What the hell are they waiting for? A petition? Cuz we can do that. And don't say "oh, that never works", because:

And recently:

Also, check my OP for a new update: PORTAL.

I hear the Starcraft board game is pretty fun. I've wanted to try it ever since I heard about it. It must've been at least partially successful because it has several expansion sets available.

I looked up a few other games I'd like to try as board games, but most had already been done (most badly). Here's some that turned up that looked interesting.
mario
World of Warcraft
Grand Theft Auto

Anyone remember the Q*Bert board game? I played it a long time ago, but I can't really remember anything about it. Was there a wind-up toy involved or was that something else?

I kind of like my videogames and board games to be separate, personally. Although, I do wish I could play more of my favorite board games online, like you can with Lost Cities:
