Sounds nice. What is your profession?
I'd guess an educator.

Or a drug dealer

So that's the reason I can't find any crack March-June.

Yeah, waffles are a good idea.

I actually thought a book would take MUCH longer than it did so i have an extra 5 days on hand. I just picked up monster hunter for the ps2 so might tackle that. Maybe finish off the unpacking too.

I barely ever play hooky only because i make my own schedule. So i guess... i do play hooky from myself? maybe?

but yeah, it is usually to go to a party or the bar or take a trip to nyc or connecticut.

So, I'm going to tackle a few games. I'm thinking Shadow of the Colossus, Indigo Prophecy and even some NCAA Football. I'll also pick up some Laphroig and some brewskis to enjoy, probably a macanudo or two as well.
I'll do the usual cleaning, laundry too, and try to go ahead and finish Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.
Sunday will be all about football, hopefully it will be a profitable week.

So, what do you guys do when you play hooky? I usually try to throw in a little traveling, but I'm staying put this time.
I take holiday leave if I don't want to go to work when I'm not sick. I understand it is also possible to take unpaid leave. Claiming sick pay when you're not sick is just irresponsible and selfish. I trust that's not what you're all talking about.

I can't speak for Luke, but many jobs in the US have eliminated a real distinction between sick days and vacation days. Some companies just give you time off days. My company has vacation days and personal days. The difference is that vacation days accrue year over year while personal days get lost at the end of the year. But there is no enforcement over which pool you take your days from.

ah, it does sound quite different to what we have over here - if you claim a sick day it will not impact on your holiday allowance, and (depending on your terms of employment) you will get paid - the amount of sick days people seem to get away with before getting sacked can be surprisingly high (although i guess it's quite nice for people who are actually ill).

Yeah, that's like my job. I have vacation hours, personal days, and sick days. But there's no criteria for using any of it. I can schedule a week off and ask to use my sick time, I can call in sick and ask to use my vacation time. So take today for example, I called in sick but I don't have any sick time left this year, I'll just put in for a few vacation hours. Vacation and personal hours are lost if not used by the end of the year, but sick time will get paid out when you get your new sick time every October. Yeah, part-time union jobs pay shit, but the benefits are great.

Lol. Fuck, now that's gonna be stuck in my head all day!

Anyways, I called in sick today. As I called in my boss told me, "We're batting 1000 today." Apparently some one else already called in sick. Oh well. For sure, the other guy is playing hooky. Not too sure if I am or not, I guess technically I am. I'm not feeling great and I have a lot of stuff to do, and tomorrow I have a dentist appointment and my first day of school in 5 years, so I wanna be top of my game.

But all that wont stop me from completely enjoying today.

So I'm playing hooky for three more days. My main purpose is to help the wife out by watching the 1 year-old while she takes the newborn to various doctor appointments.
Today I will play some Batman Arkham Asylum while he naps.

"Do computer science" they said. "You'll get rich and work a 15 hour week" they said.

60+ hours a week and 150% allocation to project work blows goats. So does working for a big bastard corporate who decides you do such a great job that they "reward" you with more work and responsibility for no extra pay, all the while ensuring you're the only one in the whole company who is actually skilled enough to do exactly what it is you do, despite constant begging to train up juniors gagging for the experience.

Bah. My advice to anyone deciding on a career in C.S. or I.T.: don't.

End rant.
