Sonic the Hedgehog Animated Film in the Works

Post by sevin0seven »

Sonic fan Richard Kuta and his design firm RK Dezignz are currently working on a feature length Sonic the Hedgehog Film.

The animated feature has been a dream of Kuta's since 1995, when the original Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon series was pulled from Saturday mornings. Realizing that his beloved cartoon series had been canceled, Kuta was inspired to create a full length Sonic film that would keep the blue blur alive in animated form.

Just ten years later, Kuta would contact SEGA of America in 2005 with his idea for a Sonic film. The company seemed interested in the project, even going as far as giving Kuta's film the green light. However, SEGA lost interest in the film, and it seemed as if Kuta's dream of producing a Sonic movie was dead in the water.

However, after receiving some help from his friends, Kuta has decided to move forward with his Sonic movie by producing a fan made film. Working with his own company RK Dezignz and 2D Imagination, Kuta has completed a trailer for the film, which is currently scheduled for a release on June 23, 2011 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Since the project is not endorsed by SEGA, the film, when completed, will be available to view and free download for online. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.

I remember some guy who wrote the sonic comic back in the early-mid 90s was somewhat obsessed with getting a movie based on the comic released. Of course he never actually had much sway with sega or anyone to get it made and it just seemed kind of sad.

Of course I've been writing a full length sonic movie which is live action and probably would be better than either of these saturday morning cartoon spinoffs, but that too has little chance of being made.

Huzzah! It's the old version of sonic, not the new art where he's a bit too slim.

Now who are they going to cast. I was just talking about this in a what if in "videogame movie casts" thread. Mod-man said he would have a nerdgasm if they used "urkel" again. I dont see that happening though.

correct! well kinda. in japan it was a two episode ova. but when they brought it to america they combined it and called it a move. so far it is my favorite dipiction of the sonic universe in media besides games (although there was some things that were off).
