It's one of the few games I actually finished as a kid and I still think its incredible to this day. Once you figure out how to beat him, it's pretty easy, but figuring it out on your own is pretty tough -- especially if you're 13 and haven't played a bunch
What is the best boss you've encountered on a platformer?

I would have to say the final combination of Metal Sonic and the huge Dr. Robotnik at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was incredible.

Yeah, the end of Sonic 2 really evoked the feeling of an epic battle between good and evil... for me at least.
Man, theres been so many awsome bosses its hard to name only a few... maybe the sewer mutant from Shinobi 3? Or the 2 white mechas?(really think somebody needs to make model kits for these guys)
Theres also the part in Rocket Knight Adventures when you have to fight Axel Gear with giant pig mechas... and the final showdown with Axel Gear when you defeat him and suddenly the screen turns black and white and the music stops... it blew my mind as kid... it still does actually.
Oh wait I almost forgot: Dynamis from Sillhouette Mirage!!!! Possibly my favorite boss of ALL TIME.

I vote Death from every Castlevania ever. He's hard since he's small, unlike other bosses, agile and damages you a lot. Plus.. most times you encounter him early on, so you have bad weapons/souls*
*in the games they appear.
Also, Mother Brain in any Metroid game. She's a bitch. Well, not her, but rather everything going on around her (for example, in Zero Mission, you battle over lava on small platforms with guns firing and cheerios charging you).
If Castlevania and Metroid don't count (they're not exactly PURE platformers) probably the final Donkey Kong in Mario VS Donkey Kong. Somewhat challenging, and nostalgic.

I remember the Frankenstein/hunchback tag-team from the 1st Castlevania because they were a major pain in the ass. (For me at least)
Speaking of Castlvania, Symphony of the Night had some pretty memorable bosses in it, like that one thats just a big ball o' naked bodies... And the bodies keep falling off of it and attacking you... and when you damage it, (big meaty) chunks of people fall off of it... and you can hear them all scream when they fall too.
...and there was the GIGANTIC Egyptian god thing... tough as hell...
There was also Beezlebub who is just this giant rotting corpse suspended on meat hooks and surrounded by giant flys. BLAST.

I think that Metroid Fusion had some phenomenal bosses, however any of the Metroids from Metroid II cause a feeling of dread that I haven't felt from any other game. I'm not sure why this is, maybe combination of the music and the total alien menacing nature. Most likely its because I was a kid when I first played it.

Hahaha I know what you mean about Metroid II! It scared the hell out of me! I think it was also because the Metroids were so mobile... all you could do was run and jump and they could FLY. And they were huge and pissed off and they just come after you relentlessly until they die. Theres no time to think and they don't follow any predictable patterns. Boss fights like that are just panic-inducing!neohx_7 wrote:I think that Metroid Fusion had some phenomenal bosses, however any of the Metroids from Metroid II cause a feeling of dread that I haven't felt from any other game.
