I've played the handheld games up to Aria of Sorrow and they are good IMO.

This game is a LONG way off from AoS... Have you actually played this one through? It's... ok, and nothing better IMO.
I've played through the original NES one, so I'm guessing that's the style you were looking for. In that case I agree that the "new" Castlevanias are not so much like that. Personally I preferred the GBA ones, but they are different games.

You just said that you've "played the handheld games up to Aria of Sorrow", but now you're implying that you haven't played them all. The game referenced here, AND had a large box shot of posted here, is the first Castlevania game on the Gameboy. So, have you actually played that one or not?

I'm hoping its a remake of the orginal GBA titles. Not that I don't like the current ones, but a classic remake like they did on PSP would be great.

Actually, if it was the original remade with an easier control system, I'd be very happy. I'm guessing that it'll be a new Castlevania game in the same style as Castlevania 1 through Rondo of Blood.

My mistake there. Sorry, I wasn't clear enough and despite the picture of the GB one I only realized it when you explictly pointed this out.

I played the *modern* handheld games. It was my egregious error leaving out the GB, GBC and otherwise. In fact I only played the GBA games, so maybe there's even more (although I don't think there's any in NGPC and so on). I intend to play the DS and PSP stuff eventually (the PSP is only remakes of older ones I think).

THIS JUST IN:

Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth Officially Confirmed!

Details:

Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth, a remake of the classic Game Boy game, is scheduled for a release on WiiWare sometime this month. No specific date is available at this moment, but the title does have a tentative release date of Q3 2009, which includes the months of July, August and September.

So keep your eyes peeled for Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth on WiiWare throughout the month of September, unless of course Konami decides to change the release date for the game.

Awesome. I think this is actually a ReBirth title I'll be picking up.

Ah, ok.

The DS stuff, IMO, is absolutely awesome. I don't have a PSP, so I haven't played any 'vania games on it... but I know that Rondo of Blood is available on it. That would definitely be a good 'vania game to play.

Huh... well, there ya go. Why redo the first Gameboy game, though? I'm sure they'll do a good job... but why not redo 'vania I, II or, even better, III?
