What exactly is inferior about the ps2 version of Code Veronica? I played it long ago and am now curious if I should play it on the ps2. I beat 3, 4, 5, and veronica and I'm working on the rest. So far, my favourite has been 4. I feel that it's just a very good game overall. There's also something compelling about it that makes me want to replay it again and again. I've recently been playing Resident Evil 5 which is a lot of fun, although a lot of it is very disappointing. It feels like a stripped down copy of RE4. It no longer has any of the cheesy humour and takes itself way too seriously. I hate the item management and a lot of the small things bother me. The one I can think of right now is the names of the weapons. In RE 4 they were all named uniquely. Like the matilda, chicago typewriter, or broken butterfly. In RE 5 all of the weapons are generically named. The omission of yellow herbs bothered me as well. I tend to notice the small things and see them as the deciding factor in how "complete" I feel a game is.dedalusdedalus wrote:for authenticity's sake, i'd suggest the dreamcast version of code veronica. the ps2 code veronica is an inferior port.
as for the outbreak games, they've got gorgeous graphics but the gameplay is significantly marred by lengthy load times and rubbish AI. you'd do better with your time and money playing other installments of the RE saga, so i'd suggest outbreak only if you really can't get enough RE.
what resident evil games are best?

Code veronica for PS2 has a few extras, I cannot think of them right now. New weapons, maybe? RE 5's management is irritating! You only get 9 spaces and few things stack? BULLSHIT! Also, I hate that it is active. I want to pause and get my machine gun/shotgun/what ever out NOW, not while a peasant chews on my face.

for me, it's a graphics issue. lots of people out there say that the graphics are slightly better for the PS2 version, but the colors feel kind of washed out and the polygon models don't exactly look right.(-_-) wrote:What exactly is inferior about the ps2 version of Code Veronica? it's entirely possible that i've just been drinking too much of the dreamcast kool-aid though.
Re: what resident evil games are best?
I've heard load times were worse on the PS2 version, but it's been a while since I read any comparisons.
I've beaten RE1, RE1 Director's Cut, RE1 remake, RE2, RE3, RE4, and RE Code Veronica. I seem to remember at least getting halfway through RE Gaiden, and I believe my girlfriend and I beat Umbrella Chronicles. I never did get around to the Outbreak games unfortunately.
Anyway, RE2 was my favorite, but it was also the first I played, and at 13 years old, it scared the piss out of me. I saw zombies everywhere for the next month. Warped me for life, and now I love the survival horror genre.

Not that RE3 is bad - in many ways it is better than RE5, actually. The main series of this franchise has been consistent - the spin-offs are what's hit and miss.
Re: what resident evil games are best?
I like pretty much all of them, except for the Outbreak games because I didn't play them. IMO, RE5 is best when played in co-op mode, I still don't like the mini-games that appeared in RE4. RE 1 and 2 are really fun, but I didn't like 3 because of the unnecessary kills by Nemesis by going the wrong direction.

Back in the day I loved RE2, once RE4 hit the scene the older titles seemed really slow and boring to me so I don't really tend to play them.
