I cannot believe Square would lose millions of dollars over the next ten years to return a favor to Sony. If the main series remains exclusive to PS3 there will be a reason other than loyalty. They switched platforms before, why not again?Saraph wrote:The main series of Final Fantasy will always remain an exclusive on a Sony system because well... Sony is the reason Square is still around. I don't know if anyone remembers what happened with the spirits within, you know, that movie that nearly bankrupted Square. Sony was the one to bail them out.

Eh they lost me when they went 3d.
But if the rumors are true I may be buying a 360. Rumor has it that Treasure is making a new shooter series on it, along with a possible port of Radiant Silvergun. And with that handy Saturn controller mod...think of the possibilities. Granted I find it highly ironic that shumps are floating to the 360 considering how well it does in Japan.

It's true, they are only a company and the only thing stopping them is loyalty. But Japan is a different culture than we're used to and the bottom line is, the 360 just doesn't sell in Japan. It's more likely that the series would go back to Nintendo rather than jumping ship for an American console. If XIII is released for both the PS3 and 360, there would be a lot of repercussions in the Japanese marketplace, and most of them bad. The most successful games that the 360 and it's predecessor have has been made outside of Japan and I believe it's going to stay that way for a while.wyatt wrote:I cannot believe Square would lose millions of dollars over the next ten years to return a favor to Sony. But really, these are only my personal opinions and predictions. The market shifts, companies make "out of the blue" choices all the time. I'm only saying what's likely in my experience observing the video game market over the years.

I would not be surprised to find it on other consoles. Sony doesn't have a contract on FF, PS3 will be tight on sales, 360 just might get a port of it.

Square used to be loyal to Nintendo back in the day.
There's no saying they won't make a move again.

I believe everything I said was accurate. I don't consider something exclusive to a system if there has been an official release of the game on a different system, PC included. You simply added detail to the others. Just because you know about the games doesn't mean you're right. I've played FFXI for 4 years or so. I know it's an MMORPG. Just because it's an mmo doesn't mean it's going to be multi-platform. The entire main series isn't Playstation exclusive, as you said. That's my only point.Saraph wrote:at least research what you're saying first
Now you're getting my words mixed up. I never said the entire main, just the current. Since Final Fantasy VII Square hasn't really looked at another company to take over it's main series. Final Fantasy XI's naming was a last minute decision to sell more copies and raise the user base, it's original name was going to be simply "Final Fantasy Online".bustaballs wrote:I believe everything I said was accurate. You also have to look at market trends when the PSX was dominating the console industry. Lot's of companies ported their games to the PC to make extra money on a popular franchise.
To end this debate as easily as possible, I just can't believe in my heart that Final Fantasy XIII will be on another system.
