SEGA Console Color: Black or White?

Post by Barry the Nomad »

As any SEGA fan knows, our favorite hardware usually comes in two flavors: black or white.

Sometimes we have a choice, such as the US Dreamcast offering a standard white or a black SEGA Sports model. Other times we're stuck with one color, like all US Saturns being completely black (unless you imported, which wasn't so easy back in 1995).

Given a choice, which console color do you prefer? Is SEGA best in black or white?

Oh, I know of all the other color variations (the crazy Christmas Seaman Dreamcast, for example) which is why I stated that they "usually" come in black or white.

I prefer white for Saturn and beyond, and black for Genesis and older. Although, were a white Genesis to exist I'd probably change my view.

My living room: white 360, white Dreamcast, white Saturn, silver PS2 slim

Back room: black XBOX, black Genesis, black Saturn, black PS2, smoke gray Dreamcast

Lol, segregation at it's best. But I would like a white Genesis.

I don't really like black electronic equipment (unless it's piano black, but then it's too much trouble keeping it without dust or fingerprints). If I find a white Saturn broken in the wild, I'm probably just gonna swap the case of my console.

Black, definitely. A white genesis would look... unnatural. :?

Agreed.

I loved the black/red/gold look of the Master System and Genesis. Problem was that when the Saturn came, the black US version completely hid all of the detail of the console. It just became a black box. Compare with the white or gray version which had nicely colored buttons.

A white Mega Drive would seem weird, but then again I don't like the Black Sega Sports Dreamcast - to me the name "Dreamcast" conjours up thoughts of the clean white case and start-up screen with its blue swirl. A Dreamcast in anything other than white is just wrong.
