What Type of Forum Posts are Your Favorite/Least Favorite?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I like that as well and I find that a number of people have a talent for writing which is something I lack. That's why I'm a software developer, not a documentation person or author.

As I stated before I would like "whatever" to be split up to "video gaming in general" and " whatever, non game related" That would clear up a lot of clutter.

I liked the idea about a racketboy news section and retro and modern sections seperating the two.

The posts I dislike the most are the "mines better then yours" or " this is better then that no matter what you say"

My favorite are the game rooms. I love looking at other peoples collection and room setup.

I dont mine arguing as long as people dont take it to seriously, everyone is entitled to an opinion. You dont have to force your views on others, but good discussions can come of it as long as they stay that, discussions.

I'm really tired of there being a thread for every single piece of news. Dear God. I read Kotaku. People need to stop posting crap from there up. I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm just saying. Half our board is like some private little Kotaku comments section.

For example: News of a price drop appears on all the news sites and blogs. Someone posts a topic about it. Two pages of "cool," "about time," "maybe I'll buy one now," and "still too high" posts follow.

I use news sites to get news. I use forum sites for discussion. Threads that don't encourage discussion or at least bring something interesting to attention don't belong.

If you really want to include news, do something like 4colorrebellion does and include a separate feed on the side of the home page. It could even go into its own forum section of something. I'm just tired of all the clutter, especially in the Whatever forum.

It's funny you should say that because...

Really great comments guys!

I'm gonna have to summarize all the great ideas from these improvement threads and review them with the mods and such. I think these ideas along could be the start of a great new start here.

I prefer to read game news that is picked out by the racketboy community so sites like kotaku, joystiq, destructoid, etc can be avoided. That way the newer games I'd probably be more interested in reading about will pop up here and not the usual crap.

I'm gonna need this one explained. I'm afraid I honestly can't tell what you're getting at.

On topic though, I'd kinda like a forum or subforum where Racketboy members could post their own articles and things like that. I really like the main articles, but could use a little more. I recently discovered The Happy Console Gamer on youtube and have really loved his format. Sometimes he reviews a whole series. Sometimes he shows off his collection of a particular series (Phantasy Star, Macross, Strider, ect).Other times he shows and explains the history behind certain pieces of his collection.

I'm sure many members have special pieces of gaming history (posters, swag, ads, ect) that I would love to see that might not quite fit into the Game Rooms or reviews forum. While not a great example, I bring up the case of the Psychonauts playing cards I found at a comic shop one day. I would love to have a place where I could put a few scans up with a short story for anyone who might be interested.

Many of our members are very knowledgeable and have a ton of info on a certain series or character, but don't want to do some review and have to waste time analyzing and justifying the games they love. I'm picturing something kinda like what HarcoreGaming101 does. I often find myself deeply researching game characters or histories, but without the time or devotion for a personal blog I sometimes get discouraged.

I'd love to have a place dedicated to things like this where I could go to find something interesting to read or see while I ate a bowl of cereal or right before I go to bed. Examples of things my imagination sees in this forum:

An Overview of Super Nintendo Advertising strategies
My Favorite N64 Cartridge Art and Why
My Gamecube in store promo display
Interesting finds from archived Sega.com (2003)
Games that pushed the ESRB and why
My signed copy of MGS
An article on Zelda 64DD from 1996 Gamefan
Highlights of E3 2001 (what was hot, what delivered, and what we never saw)
Samba de Amigo maracas review (with high quality scans of box)
Denshin de Go videos and history
An overview of early video game censorship (generations I - IV)

I guess I'm kind of imagining a community blog of sorts. Even if it didn't happen, more threads like those would be pretty cool. I understand that some of these could technically fall into other categories, but it would be nice to have a section for stuff that is more information based than discussion based so that it doesn't get lost in the clutter and is easily dug back up if one so desires. Just a thought.

Ditto for me. I don't normally keep on top of any gaming news unless they're in the AfterDawn newsletter I get. So I appreciated seeing a member post the info about the Wii price cut. Glad that someone else is sifting through the junk to pull out the good news nuggets.

I'd still rather have it sort of corralled into it's own place. That way I could do a quick sweep to see if there's any relevant to my interests and not have it clutter everything else. Come to think, that would help me not have to wade through endless blog pages if I was offline for a few days. As it is it'd be hard to find news here if you wanted to. It just really does get old when I don't go onto Racketboy for a day or so and have to sift through the forums and subforums for good threads because they were pushed out off the frontpage by "new trailer for Metal Gear Solid game X: discuss" or "tiny gameplay detail of New Super Mario Bros revealed in interview that deserves it's own thread."

I really like the lordofduct food ramblings and crazy stories. Also, anytime moz gets to crush someone's dreams of adequacy.

In all seriousness, I like the way the whatever thread brings out non-gaming stuff. I really don't care for the same repetitive topics.

I'm all for the post minimum before someone has access to the b/s/t threads. That's always worked better for me in other forums. And hell with the separate section for the arguments. They should be locked like always. Private messages will work if people are that douchey about stuff...
