KUNIO!

Post by AwesomeMonstar »

I'm sticking this here because I have no idea where this could be placed in an actual video game subforum seeing as this spans many genres and systems. ANYWAYS...

Today, with the news of Crash ‘N The Boys™ Street Challenge hitting the vc, I did a little research on the franchise. What I found out was that the Kunio series had apparently been responsible for a number of my favorite games. From dodgeball to River city ransom, it seems like this franchise had done a whole bunch. So, as I start a foray into what I haven't played with the Kunio series, I was wondering if anyone here happens to know alot about the subject, and can guide me to which titles are worth playing, and what should be avoided. Seeing as many of these games weren't released outside japan, it'd also be cool if y'all can recomend the system/fan translation of choice.

Anywho, once I play a sufficient amount, I'd love to make a big beefy post about it. I was planning on doing the same with the decline of the X seires, but I just couldn't get past the atroicity that was X6. Hopefully this franchise stays strong.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

I've never heard of Kunio before, but River City Ransom was a classic on the NES and the dodgeball game with the same kind of characters was one of the best multiplayer games of its time. If Kunio is related to that stuff, please say more. I'd be happy to get into games that evolved from River City Ransom.

It is! It is! Apparently there more than 10 of these games, spanning hockey, baseball, brawlers, more rpg brawler blends and more! I was hoping i'd stumble into an expert here, but I guess I could try these games out and see how they fare. I just want to know where to start, it looks like the snes sequels to river city ransom (yes, snes sequels) have a running plot line. I think all the games might actually.

In addition to what you mentioned, these should interest you:

Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu

Nekketsu Street Basketball

Nekketsu Soccer League

Awesome series. Haven't played any others, though.

It is fun! There is a semi-translated proto of that floating around. In fact there are (at least partial) translations for most of the games.

Crash n' the Boys is actually one of the least enjoyable in the series. The ones Pingfa recommended are really good. There are 2 soccer games, the one we know as "Nintendo World Cup" and it's sequel with a really complicated japanese name.

There is a Neo Geo dodgeball game (Super Dodgeball) also worth playing. Another good one came on the DS too, although for some reason they used A/B instead of Y/B as buttons and have no way to configure them, much like kirby superstar.

Collections of the NES games came out on GBA, although all are emulated, they are known as Nekketsu Collection.

There is a SNES Brawler thatis also fun, it's a sequel to the Japanese version of Renegade.
