Original Xboxes are ridiculously easy to repair. All you need is some Torx/Security bits (they look basically look like a star of david if you look at the front on) I think there's 6 screws, 4 under the rubber feet on the corners (just lever them up with a butter knife or something similar, anything sharper will damage them) they'll come up and they stick back down, the adhesive is pretty tacky, i've taken my xbox apart loads of times and they still stick back down. There's 2 more in the middle, again, I think, it's been a while since I took it apart. Once you take the top off, you'll need to de-couple the IDE cable (the long wide but thin grey cable) from the hard disk drive and the optical drive, unscrew the caddies (there's two, once that holds the hard drive and one that holds the optical drive) remove the optical drive and unscrew the optical drive, you'll see your disk. Remove disk and re-assemble.
Don't worry about voiding your warranty because Microsoft stopped covering them years ago.
If you can upgrade a PC you can open up an Xbox they're by far the easiest console to take apart. They're basically a PC in a HTPC case.

UPDATE:
Repaired and for free. They tried to get around it but not knowing who they were dealing with, lol. The disc had some old stickers on it so it basically got stuck on the top of the drive. Cleaned disc and it works fine.
