Restoration service w/examples

Post by Hobie-wan »

Got an older system that's seen better days, or just picked up some items from a garage sale that don't look so great? I'm very good at making systems look new again and getting gunk off of rentals and games mistreated by sharpies. I have tools for opening up carts and cleaning the contacts as well.

Here are some examples of my own stuff I've refurbished, plus a TG-16 and a Saturn for forum members. Click the links for pictures.

Do you hate those silver rental void stickers? I can get those off. Did you find an old PS1 glossy cardboard longbox with price stickers on it? Even if someone else peeled some off I can get the leftover gunk off without damage. Again, these are cleaning the old glossy cardboard longboxes directly, this is not me just replacing a jewel case.

Most marker I can get completely clean as long as it is not on a paper label. Front of NES cart on textured area. Unfortunately I haven't figured anything out to help deep scratches yet. Thanks Video Express for hacking the game up with an engraver. Before, during, and after cleaning marker off a stubborn NES cart.
Occasionally the plastic will still hold a slight ghost, but its still a dramatic improvement.

SNES pad before and after refurbishing. This had been sitting in a bucket in my friend's garage for years. Several PS1s that had also been sitting in the bucket. Closer shot of one.

Here are some systems other systems I cleaned up. Turbografx-16, Saturn close ups 1 & 2, and Jaguar close up.

I do a full teardown, not just a wipedown with a damp sponge.

Shoot me a PM and we'll hash something out if you're interested. Let me know what you have and we can work out a deal with you covering the shipping both ways. Barters for services are welcome. I have tools to open systems and carts as well as a scale so I can help approximate shipping beforehand.

Do you have the bits to open N64's and N64 carts? I've got two systems with reset buttons stuck in the down position and 15 or so carts that won't play. I cleaned them to the nest of my ability. I'd be interested... but I'm also in no rush to get this stuff done.

I've actually been collecting old systems lately, and I think that this would be a great idea. I've actually just recently come across a particularly scummy looking Sega Genesis... I might try cleaning it myself, but if you were to open up shop I would definitely consider your services.

Yeah, I can open up N64 stuff. Cleaning a batch of carts and a few systems would be perfect for my idea as long as you paying for the shipping both ways wouldn't make it too expensive for you. Say $10-15 for the actual cleaning service itself or workout some sort of trade?

I realize I'm pretty new here, but my ebay feedback is spotless and I used to be the shipping person at an anime store, so I know how to pack things properly.

I can't seem to find the pictures I took of some PS1s and SNES controllers before and after. I do think I have a NES cart I haven't cleaned sharpie off yet, I'll do a before and after on that as an example.

Just a little suggestion: I think "restoration" would be better than "cleaning"

*editing pictures into links in first post*

I picked up an N64 this weekend, though its pretty clean. I'll see if I can get some worthwhile before and after pictures of it and the controllers when I get to cleaning them. I've got a scale on the way (that I half needed for other things too) so I'll be able to weigh items to help make shipping estimates for anyone interested.

Lol I recently picked up a scale myself, specifically for shipping things.
