I think that's called Detroit.

I mean, what are today's school children going to use for their homework? It sure would be nice if they could get that same information in their own homes, like over a phone or cable line. Even better, it would be great if the home version was vastly superior to the library, making it totally worthless in comparison. Then the school kids wouldn't mind losing it. How unfair for the city to remove all traces of information like that. Now there is no way to learn anything.

Next thing you know they will stop selling VHS tapes at the store, making it totally impossible to watch any movies.
Screw you, the library rocks, regardless of how archaic the medium is reading a paper book is still one of the best experiences you can have and enjoy, especially if you're a kid living in a rundown part of philly.

wow.
"Why burn the books when no one reads them anyway?"

All kidding aside, this exact same thing is happening to both libraries where I live. Ray Bradbury even made a public appearance pleading to save them, to no avail. Pretty sad really, and says quite a lot about our society at the moment.

yeah- you would think that they would at the very least leave one open. I mean- what do you think is next? Public schools?

I'd imagine public schools would be the last thing to go, but if it goes much farther than this they'll have to start cutting some pretty important public services.

I thought Seattle was supposed to be one of the hippy capitals of the world.
B) another thing to get cut was snow removal. SNOW REMOVAL.
I used to live in the Chicago suburbs, where the roads don't close unless workers start dying from the temperature while trying to clear the street. I now live in Seattle, where the city shuts down after an inch. This is a HORRIBLE idea by Philly.
C) we are trying to earn money by putting casinos in as quickly as possible (the community isn't really happy about this). Including putting slot machines in the mall.
Casinos, good. Blackjack is a nice diversion. Slots in the mall? Reminds me of the first time I flew into Vegas; as soon as you leave the gate there's banks and banks of slots.
D) In what i hope is the city trying to get some hollywood money, TONY FUCKING DANZA is apparently going to be teaching public school for a reality show here in philly.
Do children even know who Tony Danza is?

No way. And if he is teaching at a high school level they are going to rip him apart.
