Is anyone else still noticing some problems?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Is anyone else still noticing some problems?

Post by lordofduct »

Every day I come here I check maybe two posts and then from then on out I get error messages.

I then wait about an hour and the site starts working again. I haven't heard anyone talking about it, and I know some updates were done to keep it from happening... so is this occuring for others?

It's just been terrible. 75% of my "clicks" fail anymore.

Yeah, Godaddy has turned to crap. Combine that with every gaming site linking to the Street Fighter sprite article and it's a recipe for disaster.

I signed up with A Small Orange and will have the site moved over tomorrow.
Hopefully, everything will be good after that

And here I thought it was the workarounds I was using to view it at work.

GoDaddy remains 100% solid for me, but thats just cause no one goes to my site, lol. Look forward to the move. The site has actually done well tonight. Oh and be careful migrating the forum database. I hope you know what you're doing. I'd hate to lose all this history.

I have someone that has moved sites a bunch of times helping me.
I'm keeping the Godaddy server running for a while as a backup.

Godaddy was awesome for the first year or so. But once you start outgrowing the limits they don't tell you about, they are next-to-worthless. Their support for small things is also excellent and the people are polite. But when you have issues like I'm having, they are clueless. The technical support people don't even know what Digg, Slashdot, Wordpress, or phpbb is.

wait... they don't know what phpbb is?

I know 5 people personally, let alone a few other online communities that use phpbb for their forums and use GoDaddy, yet they don't know what the hell it is?

Oh my god I know. When I was starting out, I was reading a faq on their site on how to setup a basic PHP web form. Something was fuzzy, so I called them up and they kept reciting this generic line like "GoDaddy cannot provide assistance with third party software." I had to repeatedly yell at the guy about how I am reading these lines strait from the GoDaddy site. Finally he realized he was actually supposed to help me with it, but he still didn't have a clue what a web form was. They've been equally worthless other times. Best method is to just google for help.

No, unfortunately, for their main line of "technical support", I think they hire people that are polite and speak well, but only know what is in their manual. For "escalated" issues, they write a note to a "expert".

Unfortunately, even through I tell them points of interest to note, they don't know how to write it up in a meaningful way. And you can't talk directly to an "expert". You have to wait for an email response.

And of course, the can't "replicate the issue". Even the experts give you canned answers and don't bother to actually look much into your issue.

I've been happy with DreamHost for a while, though their equipment is starting to get growing pains (outages due to failed equipment is on the rise, but their staff response time in getting those back up is extremely quick). MediaTemple is also a solid host.
