Radiant Silvergun sword upgrade

Post by fingersmaloy »

Hey, was playing Radiant Silergun today. My weapons are at levels 27, 28, and 29 because I've played so damn much without ever even coming close to clearing it. Anyway, suddenly my sword "upgraded", I guess, into something a lot worse. Instead of swiveling around the ship, it just thrusts forward indefinitely and is white. It still absorbs pink bullets and does the normal smart bomb attack, but it's a lot less helpful for cheating my way out of death.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does it get better again?

Edit:: NEVERMIND! Turns out this newfangled wireless controller had a turbo function I accidentally enabled just for that one button. Actually it's kind of useful for sweeping up large amounts of bullets at once...

It's IR, and actually works pretty well for something thirteen years old. It has a nicer weight to it than the regular Saturn pad too.

Now that the forums are working again, deal!

The IR controller looks like a regular Saturn pad except for the big black IR plate on the top (looks like the top of a remote control). Also it has a "mode" button which lets you toggle the turbo function on and off if you're feeling cheaty. Also, there's a switch on the bottom for selecting 1st or 2nd player, or you can use the thing as a TV remote. As said above, the whole thing has a nicer weight to it than a regular pad, so that's good too.

The receiver for the Japanese model takes up both controller ports, which means you can't play two-player games unless you buy a second controller, which I will but haven't yet. It also means that every time you want to use a different peripheral (like the sweet twin sticks or mission stick) you have to take out the receiver and plug in the peripheral, thereby nullifying some of the convenience of wirelessness, but that's what's to be expected from an ancient peripheral. Plus, how often are you going to pull out the twin sticks or mission stick anyway?

All in all, it's a wireless Saturn controller. Depending on the placement of your Saturn, your furniture, and you, you may experience blockage resulting in no response from your game, but it's just like any IR TV remote. If you aim it at your coffee table, don't expect it to work. This ain't Bluetooth. Also, to its credit, there's absolutely no delay in response. As long as there's nothing blocking the beam, gameplay feels exactly like it would if you were using a regular controller, with the notable exception that you aren't tethered like a miserable pooch.

I got mine on amazon.co.jp for about thirty bucks. Worth the price to me, but I'm like a Saturn historian of the most empassioned variety. Also I'm sick of cords.

Hope that was informative.

Is this the Naki wireless controller??? If it is, then I personally don't like it. The directional control is too hard and the buttons are cheaply made and feel the part. Also, since it is IR, the controller must always be facing the receiver and within a limited angle or it will lose connection very easily. Used it for a couple of times and sold it. Funny, I bought it for 10 dollars brand new and sold it used for 30 dollars on ebay. =)

Nope, this is the official Sega one. I've never used this so-called "Naki" one of which you speak, but the Sega one is better.

Seriously though, your expectations do have to be a little lenient. It's so old. You don't have to aim directly at the receiver with the Sega one. I've even been able to bounce it off walls or my own crotch and it works.
