The initial investment for an import or backup booting solution is worth it. You could also look into using FreeMcboot. To set it up you need an action replay max, codebreaker or gameshark and maybe they are cheaper than swapmagic.

You can also install Freemcboot using swapmagic and after its on your memory card you won't need to swap anymore if you patch your backups. Originals will always need the swap. Maybe there's someone here willing to set it up on your card, I know there were a couple of free install volunteers on sksapps.

But note that FMCB doesn't work on the latest SCPH-90000 series, only earlier...
