Nobody's mentioned Pheonix Wright? That's a fantastic series of crime solving games. It's extremely original and rewarding to play. I recommend every game in the series.

Although its more survival/horror, the alone in the dark series for the 3D0 isn't too bad, a little polygon-ish, but hey, they tried.

I agree with these sentiments.

Blade Runner - The game is based on a single case but solving it can lead you to several different paths.

The Tex Murphy trilogy - Good production values and slapstick humour has semi-immortalised this FMV-heavy adventure series. Dosbox supports the games nicely.

Policenauts - Think of it as Lethal Weapon in space, in which you play an estranged PI whose past caught up with him. The game mostly plays itself and it's not much of a challenge, but the story alone is more than worth it.

Jake Hunter Detective Story: Memories of the Past - Haven't played it yet but I hear it is quite recommended.

Still Life - Ignore the sequel and get the original SL instead. This game easily humbles the rest of the CSI-type games.

Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express - Easily the best of the AC games on PC.

Black Dahlia - This FMV murder mystery stars Dennis Hopper and is a mostly enjoyable romp if you find it for the right price.

Ripper - An experimental FMV-type game with multiple endings. The killer could be any one so better watch out! The cyber-setting has aged terribly compared to other AG's however.

Snatcher - Though it's more a cyberpunk/interactive novel AG you do a bit of detective work in this timeless classic.

Rise of the Dragon - I haven't had much time to play this one but I keep hearing good things about it.. It has a cyberpunk theme in the vein of Snatcher. You play a detective in it too. The SegaCD version is the best around.

I'll add more as soon as I think of any.

J T you reminded me of Overclocked: A History of Violence. However the storyline does get pretty silly halfway through, as does Fahrenheit's.

I had Deja Vu for the NES a looooong time ago and I have fond memories of it. I played the Phoenix Wright series on the DS and its pretty awesome and different.

It also seems appropriate to mention The Police Quest Series

Phoenix Wright, from best to worst.

3, 1, Apollo, 2.
