Japan People: Saturn IR Pads? Need good online shopping recs

Post by fingersmaloy »

So for my people in Japan, I've embarked on a mad search for some of those Saturn cordless IR pads. I've already checked Yahoo Auctions, the GEO online store, Super Potato online, and Amazon Japan. The first three were to no avail, and Amazon has a few providers, but it seems awfully dodgy as there aren't even pictures. They're also a lot more expensive there than they would theoretically be at the GEO shop if GEO had any in stock (which they don't).

Any other recommendations for online shops/auction-type places that sell obscure game accessories from the nineties?

Thanks.

I have never come across them in over 4 years here. In other words, they don't pop up often.

Ignore GEO. They have a ton of stuff on their site that they'll never have. I really don't think they update it other than to add new stuff.

edit: I noticed your location.
I've come across them a couple of times already and I keep kicking myself for not buying a set. I've seen them once at random at a local hard-off in my area. I've also found them on Rakuten.com ,yahoo auctions japan, and amazon. You just need to time your search right with luck and you'll find one. The only catch is you need to buy it with a receiver. I find a lot of auctions that sell only the controller which wouldn't help much at all.

I guess the only key to finding what you want is to just hope you get lucky. I'm sure you'll find exactly what you want sooner or later. Sorry I couldn't be of much help. Good luck and keep on browsing, one will pop up sooner or later.

I'll second rakuten.co.jp. That's one of the best places to find stuff.

Hey thanks, I'll check that place out now.

Maybe one of you will know the answer to this then: If you buy the controller/receiver set, and then one extra controller, will the receiver accept both of them as a first and second player?

From what I remember the IR receiver can be used with up to two wireless saturn gamepads. The IR receiver takes up both controller ports and sticks out from the front of the system. I also think it comes in two colors, standard grey or white.

I also forgot to mention that Rakuten.co.jp also has an auction section. auction.rakuten.co.jp

I think he was asking along the lines of whether the controllers had a switch or some sort of auto channel thing. Or whether each set had a hardwired internally as #1 and #2 pad that he had to worry about.

I found them on two of the sites mentioned.
You aren't going to find any with pictures, it is just one of those things.

The Amazon seller, A-too Group (エーツーグループ), who carries them has never let me down.
I have bought so many things from them.

BTW, Geo and Super Potato are the suck, don't give them your money.

Here's the official SEGA product page for the IR controllers.
http://sega.jp/archive/segahard/ss/codeless.html

The channel switch resides on the bottom of each controller. They are not hardwired to port 1 or 2. So feel free to mix and match them if you decide to buy separately.

Geo sucks. I don't mind Super Potato, though. If I can't find something, Super Potato probably has it. I did get Dracula X on the PC Engine from them for 3980yen in awesome condition. I don't think that sucks. Their prices have been coming down recently, as well. I guess I just don't have the selection of cheaper stuff that you have where you live here in Tokyo.
