Your perfect "Frankenstein" gamepad/controller

Post by shadobeni »

Based on all the existing controllers already out there (and some user created mods you may happen to know of) what would your ideal game controller be?

I do like the playstation 2 controller. I think it's very close to being the ideal "jack of all trades" controller.

However, I've never been a fan of the d-pad. It's functionally good but in terms of ergonomics, I preferred the Sega Genesis 6-button dpad. I also liked it's 6 face buttons layout.

Also I've noticed when not in use for a long time the ps2 analog stick gets really sticky especially the left one, don't know why but for this reason alone I'd probably prefer a different texture to the tops of the analog sticks.

I like the dual triggers and dual shoulder buttons on the xbox360 controller.

I also wonder if there is a way to improve the controller so that it better performs on consoles for fps. Maybe it's just me but I never find using the right analog for aiming works as well as a mouse on a pc. I've wondered if a trackball that replaced the right analog stick would work although it might limit the controller's versatility.

I'm pretty sure they absorb body oil, and it comes back out later if not used. The left stick obviously being used a lot more in games. So yeah, grab a paper towel. :(

An xbox 360 controller with a snes joystick and a screen in the middle, vmu style, except backlit and more high resolution, a little bigger too. I think that the personal screen is one of the best ideas in gaming, and it's a shame that it hasn't been fully realized in a practical way.

A Saturn Model 2 Controller with perfectly placed Dual Shock style analog sticks and a mini VMU slot or something along those lines.

I really want a Sammy PS2 Keyboard Pad Mini. I've been trying to buy one for years but every online retailer is sold out.

If it had a small trackball mouse embedded below the right button cluster it would be just perfect -
sorta like what this guy did, but retaining the PS2 functionality. Even without the modding, I could use Joyshock to make the right analog stick toggle mouse control. That would make it so I could hook my laptop or PC up to a big screen and completely control it from wherever I'm sitting using just the controller. There are lots of other controllers that have keyboards embedded in them, but that's the only one I've know of with a full keyboard including the ESC key and cursor arrow keys. And it by the SAMMY!

Perfection would be the xbox 360 controller with a saturn D-pad and face buttons if they could somehow fit them in.
