This is IMHO the definitive cover for the SoR series. I got the JPN cart because the PAL/NTSC versions were brutalised. That said however..
The PAL cover was probably the first designed by an art editor working for a game magazine (Mean Machines Sega). It's no wonder Sega of Europe opted for this illustration.
Sonic 3's PAL cover art remains the coolest among the redesigned blue scheme. Whereas many in the Sonic community dislike this cover I find it to be cooler than the rest of 16-bit Sonic covers.
The Japanese cover of VR smacks of polygonal goodness.
Blackthorne was an awesome platformer and it should have been ported to the Gen/MD instead so that more players could have enjoyed playing it!
Sonic CD's PAL cover simply pips the NTSC one, but some prefer the JPN cover with the dark backdrop.
