Being the only game on those lists I have, I tried Gauntlet, wondering what a mouse would possibly do. Aaaaand it did absolutely nothing.executioner wrote:Good question. You can do special searches on the playstation page for mouse games.

Re: Playstation 2 Mouse Support
Mouse support sucks in Dirge of Cerberus. You can never get it sensitive enough, it's a sluggish mess. The Dual Shock 2 is the only way to go. A shame considering the director of DoC says he is a huge FPS fan... not sure what went wrong here.
Half Life has some of the best KB&M support I have ever seen on a console. Sensitivity and speed approaches PC like levels. The game supports full key mapping, too. No shitty preset schemes, map em' how you like em'.
Deus Ex has decent support but still not quick enough. Next to no customization. Half Life will spoil you.
I tried Red Faction 2 and I thought the support was horrible. There is a faint auto aim that cannot be turned off. It cause you to overshoot your target and waste ammo. You are better off using the Dual Shock 2.
The only way to use a KB&M in SOCOM (that I know of) is to use a converter.
The Armored Core series on PS2 only supports the mouse while designing and drawing decals and logos for your AC.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 also supports mouse use for logo and car paint design.
------------
I own a PS1 mouse. It is a damned good one, too. I wish I could use it for work. Very rugged design for a ball mouse. It's supported by a decent number of games and is worth picking up. It works great for games like Project Horned Owl, if making them a bit easy.
The PS1 mouse works on the PS2... for PS1 games that support it.
------------
I have been toying with the idea of buying a Smart Joy for a long time now. There is another widely acclaimed KB&M converter for the PS2 called the Max Shooter. The Max Shooter supposedly has a few more features and works just as well, if not better, than the Smart Joy.
Apparently these devices do a pretty good job of giving you emulated KB&M support for games that don't support those two itty bitty USB ports right up on the front of the PS2 that are so easy to to plug a KB&M directly into so why he hell weren't they supported with every single FPS/3PS.... n/m.
Just remember that most PS2 3PS and FPS were designed with analog look AND movement in mind. So using a KB&M means giving up the ability to sneak in games like SOCOM. You will also likely run into frustrating issues with heavy handed auto targeting systems that cannot be turned off and were put in place to help players limp along with the inferior dual analog stick scheme.

Re: Playstation 2 Mouse Support
I've got a Smartjoy Frag for the OG Xbox and while it does a half decent job it still doesn't quite work how a mouse should. Since it's basically mapping your mouse movements to an analogue stick you are limited by it. Therefore If you try and do a quick 180 you don't do anything since the move is impossible on an analogue stick. You are bound by the sensitivity of the analogue stick and it just feels a bit detached. IT does help with aiming though. I found it gave me a bit of an edge in Halo 2 when I used to play it online. I suck with a regular pad on FPS games. I refuse to buy them on consoles unless they are console exclusive. Keyboard and mouse controls will always be the superior choice for FPS/3PS.
