Anyone seen this?

Seems pretty pointless. I mean if your gonna play on a PC a ROM would be far easier. It's pretty darn neat/interesting though.

Yeah, I've seen one of these before. Really, I think it's just for the sake of being novel, because all that's really happening is that a middle man is being added. Maybe you could use it to store your saves on your computer, to protect against dying batteries and whatnot.

I saw it a long while back but saw the vid again today for some reason. Thought people here would think it was cool.

It's funny though.. The reason he states for making it is because you have to sift through porn sites to get ROMs *giggle*. Maybe 12 years ago. I don't understand how someone that is intelligent enough to make this can't figure out that you can download complete sets for pretty much any cart based system very easily all over the internets lol.

So I can either

A.) Spend money on this and games to play with it
or
B.)Get free games AND porn.

That's pretty cool actually. It's a rom dumper essentially. It just presents itself as a mass storage device. Yeah it's not as practical as downloading a whole set, but still a cool piece of hardware. I guess it would be really nice for those folks putting an emulator PC inside a NES case. Good if you want to back up your SNES saves too.

I think its very cool in theory. I must have been fun for him figuring it all out. Not quite cool enough to blow $100 on though.

IMO the whole idea of actually having a cart vs a ROM is so you can play it on the real hardware. Id rather have the opposite of this. A flash cart (One that is able to run Super FX) with enough space to fit every USA game on it :P

It seems that this will help ROM dumpers a lot

Maybe he changed things in the last day or so, but that's not what the author is saying at all.

He writes explicitly that the benefits of this over downloading a ROM are that

1. The courts are far more likely to back you up on this. With downloaded ROMs, you don't have a legal leg to stand on.

2. You can backup your savegames from the cartridge.

It's the reason he stated for starting the project.

I doubt i will ever be in court and i have complete sets for every cart based system.

As far as backing up your save games from the cartridge. There have been ways to do this for years. Like i said ... I like everything about this project .. i just don't see the point hehe

I would definitely buy one for fun if it wasn't going to be so expensive.
