Got in the NES GBA SP and it's in really good shape for the price. The case has some light scratches and the interior is perfect.

I went ahead with transferring the guts and screen of a brighter GBA SP to the NES GBA SP (I HATE Tri-wing screws!!!) and love the results, it's the perfect SP to me now! Have a look...

Ack, I love it! And if it ever dies, I can gut another bright SP and replace it with another one since I switched all of the P.I.T.A. Tri-wing screws with normal, phillips screws.

BTW - thanks!

I'm really jealous. i don't know if you heard my story, but I saw one of these at Gamestop like 2 weeks ago for $40 so I was like "FUUUUCK I HAVE TO BUY IT" and then I realized that the screen looked like it had been stabbed 14 times with a butcher's knife. I came home and researched and found that the SP screen doesn't have an easy-to-order-and-install replacement kit. :(

Are you talking about something like this?
http://www.estarland.com/product25743.html

paired with

http://cgi.ebay.com/Replacement-Screen- ... 144wt_1165

This should be sufficient to replace the screen and LCD. Also, get a Tri-Wing. The older GBA SP models have tri-wing screws under the rubber grommets whereas the newer models have regular phillips screws holding it in.

Did I mention I HATE tri-wing screws? They wouldn't be so bad if they weren't aluminum and stripped everytime you breathed on them... GRRR!!

Sorry to hear that. Check eBay. I picked mine up with a buy it now of $34.99 with $7.00 shipping and it came in great condition. The screen did NOT looked like it was stabbed or chewed up by a dog either!

yeah I'd rather just buy one in good shape than spend extra money and time replacing the screen. Someday. Someday.

I feel your pain! I originally had the GBA SP Graphite from Game Stop. It had some scratches, but the screen was perfect! Out of the 50 - 100 I must have looked at, this one was one of the first decent ones with a brighter screen AND in the color I wanted.

Keep looking, and have cash ready, you never know when you'll find one.

Thanks! It's really unbelievable how much a difference the backlighting makes. The colors are so much more vibrant and crisp. Frontlighting just looks washed out and I never like that the antireflective layer on front always caused the LCD to look like there was a reflection or glaze on it. It wasn't until I compared the before and after pictures that I REALLY saw the difference!

How difficult would it be to get my SP backlit?
With the price is it better just to look for one already with back lighting?

Never thought of it tilla fter my girlfriend, and she's taunting me with it now to make me want to upgrade even more.....
