For those who dont follow the donmaku/bullet hell world there has been a one man team from Japan rocking it. The team Shanghai Alice is composed soley of Zun and he has created 9+ games over the past 10 or so years in the series. Why is this of circumstance? Well the games are surprisingly amazing for a one man group. Not only are they beautiful, they are also quite difficult, and just a blast to play, if you like shumps ofcourse.
The four that most people would care to play (aka the post PC-98 ones):
Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
Perfect Cherry Blossom (my personal favorite)
Imperishable Night
Phantasmagoria of Flower View – the 2 player head to head
And to a lesser extent – Shoot the Bullet – Purely boss fights where you must take the a picture of the boss, it is one of the hardest in the series.

I find that shumps are best introduced soley in video form, words can only do so much before someone sees it in action.
