Re: What game consoles do you encounter in the wild?
^The problem is exactly that. Those who know how much everything is worth pump up the price until it's absurd. If I go the el Rastro (The biggest flea market in Madrid) I see three kinds of vendors:
a) No games at all
b) Only new games, perhaps a GBA game lying around but never anything interesting. They are like your local shop but with less variety.
c) The kind of guy who thinks that Pokemon Emerald is worth 40 euro.

Playstation X/One and Genesis consoles. Those were the ones owned by the crowd more likely to sell their systems. Playstation was the first mainstream console, and the Genesis had the sports games. I imagine that the same could/will happen to the wii for the people who bought it as a novelty/babysitter, the X-Boxes for people who bought them for the new Halo/Madden, or the PS3 for people who bought it exclusively to play bluray.

Only ones I havent seen in the wild are:
Rca studio 2
fairchild channel f
Bally
apf imagination machine
vectrex
rdi halycon
commadore 64GS
laseractive
Atari lynx model 1
neo geo pocket B/W
Adventure vision
I have seen everything else that was released in the USA. Have not seen any non US systems in the wild. I havent seen every version of the CD-I. One store I go to has 2 neo geo AES for sale, a neo geo cd, and neo geo cartridges. Over priced of course. Have any of you guys seen the above systems in the wild? Just curious if the internet is the only way I could look at those systems.

I saw a Vectrex in a Antique shop in Chamblee back in the mid 90s. The guy said it was a broken tv and still wanted a couple hundred for it.

I see those NES/SNES clones, Genesis (models 1 and 2), Dreamcast, N64, Playstation and Gameboy pretty often. I once saw a Game Gear in the wild. I've never seen any Neo Geo stuff, 3DO, Jaguar, or even a Saturn in the wild.

i've seen just about everything at video games NY and at various play n trades, except at such ridiculous markups that it doesn't really count.
i see a lot of reasonably priced units of original xbox, gamecube, ps1, ps2 and n64. then the dreamcasts, geneses, NES and SNES are just a bit harder to find at a reasonable price.

By 'The Wild', I'm assuming your talking about Joe Shmoe Flea Market vendors. In which case, I very often encounter Genesis systems, as well as Xbox games and consoles. Rarely is any of it worth a damn.
However, in the Barnyard Flea Market in Fort Mill, SC, there are tons of great vendors. I unfortunately passed on a Sega CD I saw being sold there for $40 (I really wanted it, but was low on cash), and I've seen almost everything else at that Flea Market as well. The only systems I haven't seen there are anything Neo Geo, 3DOs, and all those completely worthless systems like the CD-i. Other than that, I have seen everything there at one point or another.

In Japan...
I most often come across (extremely common and usually easy to get for $30 or less, depending on condition):
Famicom
Famicom Disk System
Super Famicom
N64
Gamecube
All versions of Gameboy
Saturn
Dreamcast
Game Gear
Playstation
PSOne
PS2
X-Box
Neo Geo CD
3DO
I seldom come across (perhaps a half dozen to a couple dozen times a year, except in places like Akihabara, where these things are very easy to find):
Famicom Twin
Virtual Boy
SG-1000/Mark III/Master System
Mega Drive
Mega CD
Neo Geo AES
PC Engine (all versions)
anything else I forgot to mention (ie. Atari Systems are almost non-existent in Japan)

I have seen Jaguar and Neo Geo carts at this store I know of in Norridge. I think they have Jaguar systems, but I'm not sure. I highly doubt they have an actual Neo Geo system though. But they also have youre standard US systems. I see carts for many of the systems that you usually dont (Odyssey 2) but the actual consoles I dont know for certain.
