What game consoles do you encounter in the wild?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Usually just find used PSOne games at the local goodwill.

Maybe it is just in this region, but it seems that most of the local thrift stores always have a stack of PS1 consoles laying around, usually all marked at about $34.00 (not tested of course).
Don't ask me about the price ;)

Wow, I'm surprised people see such a wide range of retro stuff. I usually encounter games and consoles from the 32 bit era up, and random accessories and controllers for anything older than that. Also, this may be regional, but I never see anything Sega related past the Genesis here.

I need to check out the local pawn shops one day, but pawn shops make me feel icky.

And even if being in one doesn't, touching some of the stuff they've got in there sure does. The last one I went into, the Genesis carts were gray from the dust on them.

They just attract a certain clientele, and by clientele, I mean thieves. I do, however, think that salesmen can learn a lot form the people who run pawnshops. In undergrad, I went to a pawnshop with my good friend Paulie who was trying to sell his old car stereo. Here's how it the transaction went:

Owner: Whatcha got there?
Paul: CD player.
Owner: Looks like shit.
Paul: It's not even a year old. I payed over $300 for it.
Owner: Then why would you sell it?
Paul: I'm getting a new one.
Owner: So you don't even need it?
Paul: No.
Owner: Well, you just made its value drop.
Paul: huh?
Owner: If it isn't worth anything to you, why should it be of any value to me?
Paul: Hmm.
Owner: I tell you what, what is the very least amount of money you'd sell this for?
Paul: $150
Owner: I'll offer you $100.
Paul: Hmm. Sounds low, but I'll take it.
Owner: Offer retracted. I'll give you $75.
Paul: $80?
Owner: Done.

I still goof on Paulie for taking his offer.

saw a CDi yesterday at Goodwill. No cables , controllers or games (or self-help cd's). $20. I thought about getting it, but then I remembered that the CDi sucks.

Around here everyone know the Ebay value of everything. Dreamcast $50, NES $20, and so on and so on.

I was lucky to aquire all my systems at a local mom and pop that sold all systems at great prices. I miss them so much.

Example:
Virtual Boy (Boxed) $19.99
Saturn w/ NiGHTS $39.99
3DO w/ Starblade $24.99
Lynx 2 (Boxed), 12 games (Boxed), charger, case. $45.00

And that's just a small sample.

Several of the local flea markets have vendors dedicated to retro consoles, so I see a pretty wide range of games and systems. Unfortunately everything is usually way overpriced which sucks, cause I usually find stuff I am interested in and in excellent shape. It's sad when eBay is vastly cheaper than my local sources. Surprisingly 3DO FZ-10 systems seem to pop up more locally than I would expect considering out of all my friends I am the only one who ever owned one or knows much about them.
