Modding a PS1

Post by GamerMON »

I have a couple PS1s. I am looking to mod at least one them. Mainly for import control but if I can play back ups that would be a good bonus. A lot of link rot. I don't want to do any disc swapping. Just want to put in the disc and play. Don't know how to solder and don't want to learn.

My brother gave me a soldering iron and some kits for learning. I just don't have a space in my tiny apt.

1001, 5501, and 9001. I am just not looking for an disc swaping. If I really have to, I would rather solder.

I have one of these: http://www.modchip.ca/store/product.php ... 256&page=1

It involves a disc swap method, but it's not like the Saturn swap. The way it works is you start off with a retail disk in the system and it boots up to the device menu. The disc immediately stops spinning after reading the authentication. Then you open up the PS1, swap your disc, and hit start game. Works for both backups and imports. But I can understand if you don't want to deal with even that much.

ive got some modchips left. i can mod one of your PS1s for 30$ plus shipping/paypal fee.
this includes the chip/install and a laser calibration if needed. i also clean and regrease the gears and laser sled. my chips are multimode 3, the best there is. they play backups and imports (even the antimodchip protected ones) with no swapping needed. (though for PAL games you will need a TV that can accept a PAL signal)

Import Player Isos for playing PAL games on NTSC TVs (and vice versa I think)

With the 1001 if you boot up without a game in then access the CD player

Open the lid and insert an original game
Blu-tac the lid button down
let the original disc load up what's on it (normally just 1 data track, but sometimes music too)
swap the discs without opening the lid (obviously)
and go to exit

It'll boot the copy as the protection data is all on that 1 cd audio track and with the early systems once it's in the cache it stays there. works fine for mutli-disc games too

nope. the protection is in some bad sectors that cant be copied by consumer equipment. and just like those boot disks, youre still swapping and it will fuck with games that have CDDA music cause it uses the TOC of the legit game.
