well, 1) they are not real naked women (well half naked),
2) they look stupid, when put next to men with super efficient combat suits, and they have a metal bikini (random costume call here)
3) people (aka women) would take comic's more seriously if it didn't show women like that.

I was playing MK vs DC universe, and when I fought wonderwoman, everyone told me she looked stupid (I mean really. the stars in her crotch?

it's not that they can't be sexy. lara croft is sexy, and I've never heard a woman say she's ridiculous, because her suit is more than a thong. and one of the most loved female character's in american comics is pretty well dressed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley_Quinn

but then again, at least american comics show some respect to women, by making them strong (emotionally) characters, who can stand on their own.

I have yet to see a manga, where the woman is more than the damsel in distress. Their humor is basically, them beating up way more powerful guys than them, because they dared hit on them, and if a fight scene comes, they are more wimps than minor characters.

it's a good thing the bad guys don't hit on the heroines, cause then their bitch power would activate, and then they'd kill them

<3 Harley Quinn. wish they put her in one of the batman films already

I've heard the opposite about Lara Croft from every woman I know. It's always, "She is scientifically too skinny to menstruate. She couldn't fight a wolf, let alone a T Rex with boobs that big. Those mammoth mammaries would affect her shooting. She doesn't have tampons in her survival kit? etc. etc.

Harley is okay with me, but she wasn't a Batman character until the cartoon.

To be fair, Wonder Woman is too old to get a costume change. Just like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, etc.

Ok, that is a bad example...

But too be fair, some of the batman and spiderman alternate costumes were kinda cool in their day.

An experiment.

A failed one.

But at least it led to her:

ha. from wikipedia:
"Superman Red/Superman Blue"

The second incarnation of Superman Red and Superman Blue began in a 1990 storyline. Superman had developed electricity-based abilities,[1] which eventually forced him to adopt a blue and white containment suit. He also gained the ability to turn his powers "off," though this left him as vulnerable as a normal human. This version of Superman was referred to by some fans as "Electric Blue Superman".[2]

In the Superman Red/Superman Blue one-shot (February 1998), a trap created by the Cyborg-Superman caused Superman to split into two beings who represented different aspects of his personality, though each believed himself to be the original. Superman Blue was the more cerebral entity, preferring to think his way out of situations and actually solve problems with his mind as well as his powers. Superman Red was more rash, but also more decisive, preferring action over taking the time to think. Over time these two personalities grew more and more polarized and individual, to the point that neither entity wanted to become one Superman again.

Both Supermen deeply loved Lois Lane; unlike in the earlier Red/Blue story, there was not another love interest for one of the Supermen to pair up with. Instead they fought over Lois' affections, each with almost no consideration for her feelings; Lois lost her tolerance for this and essentially kicked them both out of the house until they could figure out how to unite.

Perplexed, both Red and Blue flew to Antarctica to see if Kryptonian technology could solve the issue. But were met by a woman named Obsession, who had previously shown an insane level of romantic lust for Superman. Then Maxima, another superpowered female admirer of Superman's (only this one was far more volatile) stepped in. While Obsession liked the idea of two Superman, Maxima found the existence of two utterly unacceptable. A fight broke out between the women when Obsession offered to share them with the amazon from Almerac, insulting Maxima's royal sensibilities. Superman Red and Blue separated the combatants and reprimanded them it.

The two Supermen merged and Superman returned to his normal powers and original costume.[3] The explanation is vague; Superman felt he was "rewarded" for saving the world, although he later claimed in JLA v.1 #20 that he returned to normal when his electromagnetic energy dispersed.
to summarize: DC comics made some bad decisions and then got rid of the stupid electric powers and fixed superman back to the original because pretty much as soon as the comic community got wind of it everyone had a collective "wtf".

This marks the day that everyone on the planet Earth has made a Marvel/Disney crossover joke.
