Official Dreamcast Internal Battery Thread

Post by h8b1llg8ts »

My Dreamcast is not keeping the internal time anymore. But to be honest I only play it for about 15 minutes every month or so. I'm reading a couple of different facts about replacing battery, just letting it charge, and rechargable.

Can someone please post some truth here so we can get an exact answer on if I really need to open her up.

My understanding is that the original rechargable battery seems to be of bad quality, as mine refuses to hold a date even when I've kept my Dreamcast on overnight (was unlocking stuff in MvC2). I've seen that it is possible to substitute the coin-style battery with a couple of cylinder-types to match the voltage and amperage.

I'm glad we have an Official forum for this.

I've been looking for one for years.

it can be replaced with a couple AAA rechargeables, but they have to be rechargeable, otherwise you'll damage normal batteries/your DC.

sometimes you can leave the system on to charge it but odds are that's not gonna cut it.

I just deal with not having the time for now, but i'll put in rechargeables one of these days.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
