It's just like the Fairchild Channel F; it did some things before everyone else, but everyone else who followed did it so much better.

Ouch, that's cold. As an owner of both systems, I'll say that the Dreamcast is very much unlike the Channel F, in that the Dreamcast is actually fun to play. I'm not sure what you're thinking of that the PS2/GC/Xbox did better than the Dreamcast either, their main advantage is just having more games.

Ok, at least one or more of these systems had:

hard drive capabilities, better graphics (more RAM, better processors, etc.), could play DVDs, more third-party support, better controllers (Dualshock 2 > DC controller), USB ports, backwards compatibility, voice chat more feature-rich (and better supported) online play, etc.

Look, the Dreamcast was innovative but it is silly to think it did things much better or offered much more than what came after. If it did, it would probably still be around.

I think what a lot of us trying to say is this:

The Dreamcast was an amazing system. It still is when you take into account it's ease of running homebrew. It was extremely forward thinking its capabilities and peripherals.

However, it was sold to a rather niche market and is remembered by an even more niche community. It was not a widespread cultural phenomenon, which is what Google tends to celebrate.

I'm not saying it was a massive public success, but the system's a cult classic that I feel deserves to be honored in some form at least once by a mainstream outlet. Is that too much to ask? I mean sure it's no NES, but it's what it left in it's wake both in the spotlight and behind the scenes that really matters.

I read your profile and it states that you are 17. So, you are probably a high school senior, or a college freshman. Focus your time and energy on school/work/family/friends, and not on this. Video gaming should be a hobby, and it should not get to the point of having a strangle hold on your life.

Ok, Pookie hold it right there. You can take that BS and go post on IGN. If the kid wants to nag google over the Dreamcast and spend his free time doing it then so be it. At no point did anyone ask for you to get all mighty and grown up, talking about gaming be a hobby. Let the kid obsess; he'll probably end up working in the games industry.

I'm not letting this donsume me, it's just something I thought that I would try to shoot for as my goal for the next week or so.

As for gaming being just a hobby I decided long ago that I wanted to have a career in it somewhere, not an obsessive money pit where I completely abandon my family like lukemorse1.
