I'm sure this has been asked before but I have to know...
A) Where can I import European PS3 games (I'm a US-er) and
B) How often are they region-locked?
I really want to get Battle Phantasia and the soon-to-be-released Agarest: Generations of War - Collector's Edition, and I don't want to get them and have them be region-locked. I hear Europe doesn't make their stuff as region-free as the rest of the world.
And yes, I know they're coming to PSN. Screw that. I want physical copies.
About European PS3 games...
Re: About European PS3 games...
Don't know about where (I'm sure ebay would be fruitful), but the PS3 doesnt have region locking, so you would be able to play any game from any region on any consolethe7k wrote:I'm sure this has been asked before but I have to know...

Yep we're region free, I own BP myself and play it fine on my US PS3.
I've never had a region locked game on PS3 and obviously living in England only buy european PAL release games. Don't worry about it

Before you go import crazy, keep this in mind for the future:dlmvii wrote: but the PS3 doe snot have region locking, so you would be able to play any game from any region on any console
Wikipedia wrote:The PS3 actually supports hardware region locking for PS3 games as well, based on Blu-Ray regions[3], but as of current it is unused and all current region lockouts and separations are about online services.

Re: About European PS3 games...
From what I have been told, the PS3 does indeed have Region-Locking. Sure, not many people use it (like almost every company in the US and Japan), but some like to enforce it (like some companies in the UK).
For example, the Official UK PlayStation Magazine comes with demo discs, just like the old Official US PlayStation Magazines. However, they're region-locked. Only Euro PS3s can play them.
That's why I'd kinda like to know beforehand. It's like a $70 gamble. If it is just the UK OPSM discs that are known to be region-locked, though, then that's a bit encouraging.
By the way, figured I'd share this. It's not about games, but it still might be helpful to some.

Also, I just signed up with GAME. http://www.game.co.uk/ They allow for shipping to the US.

I didn't know there was a english PS3 version of Battle Fantasia. I have a 360 but the controller sucks for fighting games.
Re: About European PS3 games...
It's actually up to the game publisher to implement region locks and since no one is doing it I can't see any company wanting to be the first, it'd be a back step
The OPSM discs have to be region locked because they have movie and TV show trailers etc on and the wordwide rights system is different.
It's not a gamble at all as I said above I own a UK copy of Battle Phantasia and I play it on a 20GB US PS3. That said you could get it alot less than $70 some shops over here sell it for £19.99 new

Yeah, I saw the £19.99 Battle Phantasia, but I'm actually going to be getting the Collector's Edition of Agarest before that - which is about $70. Limited Print = Gotta grab it now.

try to find it from a mainland retailer (if you know french or german it could help your search) since Euro < Pound
