Is Paper Mario Worth Playing on the N64?

Post by racketboy »

If you already own Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door on the Gamecube?

It kinda seems like its just an early version of the Gamecube game. And it seems that the Mario RPG-like games all have basically the same storyline and gameplay.

Play 'Super Paper Mario' on the Wii... it is awesome and isn't really an RPG... it is more an action-adventure game that plays a lot like old Mario games with more storyline.

Yeah, I know, but if I DID want more of an RPG, should I bother with the N64 one? I already own the Cube version.

Well... I played it when it first came out and I really liked it, so much, in fact, that it became one of my favorite games. I never had a Cube so I missed out on TTYD until I got a Wii. I wasn't impressed by it. The gameplay is pretty similar, with only minor adjustments. Even worse, it seems a lot more tedious than the original. To me, the only thing TTYD has over the original is better graphics in the form of higher resolution sprites. So yes, I'd say it's definitely worth it (but that just might be the nostalgia talking).

If you liked the Cube game and want more try the N64 game. They are two different games. They're just similar.

Neither of them are very RPG-ish, but if you liked the gameplay of Thousand Year Door, pick up the N64 version. It's a lot of fun, and has the same type of humor.

Paper Mario for the N64 is a must have. The gameplay is awesome. If you like Thousand Year Door you are going to love the original paper mario.
