I was refering to why are their 2 pages of DS comments not who started it you were not talking to yourself. I was trying to bring the topic back.NeoTechni wrote:You asked why we were talking about DS. I was why.pepharytheworm wrote:What makes you think I was only talking about you.
The GBA any version cramps my hands. To be portable it seems it has to be uncomfortable. Only portable systems that arent very portable are comfortable in my hands like the Game Gear but then it is too heavy.
I like the SNES ports it is one of the reasons I got back into retro gaming and the main reason I like rpgs now. Before the GBA the only rpg I have played is Mario RPG. I also love mario kart advance. It feels a lot like the original mario kart.
Anybody else here play the GBA mostly for the games and not beacause its portable. I mostly play mine before I go to bed. I have never played it on the go. I think I would be embarresed playing while waiting for an appointment. I always think it looks funny watching kids walking behind their parents playing. How do they not run into anything?
but all in all the GBA is one of my favorite game systems. I dont even want a DSi because it can't play GBA games.

It seems like you should get a GB Player for Gamecube and maybe the Digital Hori pad

I do have the GB player but it looks kind of washed out on the TV. I would like the hori pad because the gamecube controller just doesnt feel right playing GB games. Its the same with the psp it looks good on the system its self but on the TV blurry.NeoTechni wrote:It seems like you should get a GB Player for Gamecube and maybe the Digital Hori pad

Bring up the GB Player's menu and tell it to set the filter to SHARP instead of the default SOFT setting.pepharytheworm wrote:I do have the GB player but it looks kind of washed out on the TV. Also the GB player is compatible with the Gamecube component cable for 480p visuals which makes the GBA look fantastic when it's set to sharp on an HDTV with the GC's component cables.

thats how mines hooked up. I keep it on sharp. Its probably because it is a bigger screen.

Is it in 480p via the GC's component cables?pepharytheworm wrote:thats how mines hooked up. I keep it on sharp. Its probably because it is a bigger screen.
If you're still having image blur try shrinking the GBA screen size back to normal instead of full screen as well as I've heard that can help a ton as well.

Hmmm, is the TV indicating that the GB player is running in 480p?
If not you may want to check your GB player's manual to see how to boot it in 480p mode.
Usually all you should have to do is hold down B until the game prompts you if you want to run it in 580p, but the GB player might have a different 480p boot mode.

Re: Game Boy not so Advanced
You've said very little, Techni, which isn't completely subjective. Games can be navigated just as well using a dpad? Let's compare pressing down four times then pressing a button to touching the screen a single time. Let's compare scrolling a target on-screen to touching the screen a single time. Touch interfaces are a boon for portable adventure games, as an example, because of their reliance on point and click interfaces.NeoTechni wrote:I've found menus can be navigated just as well using a dpad...
I have tried a few rhythm games on DS, they've all been easier using buttons...
When the only game I've found to use in a way that wouldn't have been better using buttons, is an unreleased tech demo from before the DS came out. It doesn't say very much for that feature.
I take it you haven't, in fact, tried many rhythm games on the DS, as the best rhythm game series on DS, and in fact likely the best conceived rhythm game on any portable system period, only works via the touchscreen. I'm talking about Ouendan, of course. The shaky selection of music aside, the gameplay is the most original among rhythm games in the last five years (and one which others, including DJ Max Technika and UBeat, are basing their own gameplay off of). Why? Because of how well it implements the touch screen.
On the other hand, Rhythm Heaven is weaker than its predecessor in many ways simply because it tries too hard to utilize the touch screen. My previous example, however, exemplifies that it's those that use a feature well that define the feature, not those that fail in using it. And it strikes me that you're being obtuse not to realize that, especially as you claim to program touchscreen based software. How could you possibly judge the system instead of the developers?
If you'd like me to list many more games that would be degraded without a touch interface, I can. But hopefully you'll drop this rhetoric that just because it can be done without a touch interface (ie. Advance Wars), it should be. Such a rhetoric should be viewed objectively as completely asinine.
Also, please drop the comparisons between DS and PSP; each do things the other cannot - so please stop trying to compare them as if we're limited to one or the other.
