I'm fairly white, particularly for a mediterranean person (I'm not red-haired or from the Northern European countries) - I am just careful. If I go to the beach, or if I'm going to be walking, cycling, or anything like that in the strong sun for a while... I use factor 60 sunscreen (which is about the maximum) AND I still keep myself with sleeves and a cap whenever I'm not going to the water.

I probably get weird looks for wearing long sleeves, but I mostly don't care about what other people think (talking about strangers - I care a bit about what my friends think).

I have a lovely suntan on my hands only, from playing Boktai 3 (last summer from Boktai 2 and the summer before Boktai) - the Sun is in your hands, indeed...

Why the hell did you sit your pale body out in the sun for 90 minutes? I hope you at least applied sun screen first. When tanning, you should start with small amounts of time (<30 minutes). As for the aloe, it supposedly gives your body nutrients, but all I ever seem to feel is numbness for two seconds and then I get the pain again. The only way I've found aloe to be useful is if it's in my body wash.

I know it sounds weird, but if you ever get a bad sunburn, run a lukewarm bath and pour in some white vinegar (the cheap kind that comes in the big bottles that people sometimes use to clean floors with) while the water is running. lay in it and soak for a little while and it will pull the sting out. It works best if you do it pretty soon after you get burned, probably wouldnt be too effective if it has already been a few days.
I tried that when I got really burnt when I went to the beach after high school graduation, not really believing it would work but just willing to try anything at that point, and have done it ever since whenever I get a bad sunburn. It also seems to somehow reduce the peeling you get afterwards.

I have also heard this... actually I have heard that vinegar is pretty much the cure for everything from a sun burn to a stinky coffee pot. Anyhoo, I will be surfing tomorrow so I look forward to a bad burn when I get home. It clears up the skin like no ones business!

Don't get a sun burn on "purpose"!

There are physical sunblocks (using Zync Oxide, I think) that you can apply that instead of absorbing actually reflect the light. You probably will look rather weird if you apply it everywhere, but as a surfer you can just put it on the face sensitive areas and use a long-sleeved wetsuit.

I hate wet suits and try not to ever use them, but that is a good suggestion and I assume that's why I see guys wearing them when the water is warm (also to protect from jelly fish). Coating myself in bright white Zinc Oxide, tempting for humorous as well as practical effects.

That is what the Silver Surfer does. To protect from sunburns when there isn't an atmosphere around to absorb the radiation and all :P
