Re: How does your job help or hinder your retro gaming?
I work for a game company as a 3d artist. We have a huge team, all of whom are avid gamers - of one sort or another. Whenever a new game is released, someone (or a few) people of course will buy that new game. People will talk about it for like a week constantly - either praising it or hating it. They talk about stategies, underlying game structure, and of course, lots of spoilers. The result is, I loose any interest I had in that game (if I had any) and I never end up playing it. Instead, I end up buying more retro games (Just got Street Fighter Collection for Saturn - whoohoo!). So I guess you can say that my work indirectly causes me to buy older games instead of the newer ones.
Systems Owned: Saturn, DC, SNES, NES, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Gamecube, N64, DS, GBA, NEOGEO Pocket

Just got a PS3 Flight Stick for free from work. ($50 value) They were going to field destroy it, so I figured it was worth a shot to ask for it. I jokingly said I was going to play Marvel vs Capcom 2 with it.
Ain't the first free thing I got from work that was just going to end up in the garbage, not by a long shot.

Our store never got any, but I saw them at the other one in town just the other day for like $20 or something.

Yep, the AV8R sticks (ain't that just a clever name...). Works fine too.
Well, not fine for MvC2, but still - it works. Actually pulled off a Triple Hyper Combo Cancel with it, but it made my hands hurt really bad. Obviously not made with 2D Fighters in mind.

Re: How does your job help or hinder your retro gaming?
I'm an IT Tech for an aggregate material company and I cover a pretty decent sized user base. It’s a great job, but I'm under paid so after bills and cost of living it doesn't leave me a lot of money for retro gaming.
Thankfully, I'm a musician on the side and make a decent amount of money to fund my retro gaming habits with digital music sales. I also fix computers on the side, do websites and domain setups and stuff; so that helps too. Unfortunately, my wife has been out of work since April, so I've cut back quite on picking up stuff and concentrating most of my incoming funds on bills.

30-40 minute bus ride each way means time for laptop games.
Being at a computer all day means more time for internet (though I should do less of that).
There are two vintage game shops in walking distance from my final bus stop to work.

I work at the Gamestops as well. Typically its slow so I typically grab a GBA and pop a copy of Drill Dozer in there. thats about as retro as it gets. It is either that or juggling accessories like 3-4 PS2 network adapters or memory cards.
I get cool stuff at times, got taiko drum master new in the box for 3 dollars. And a Saturn free.
