Is the Famicom Disk System compatible with Famicom Titler?
Is the Famicom Disk System compatible with Famicom Titler?
Anyone know if the Famicom Disk System works with the Sharp Famicom Titler? I looked around the internet but couldn't find anything about this. Someday I'd like to be able to play Famicom cartridges and disks on a 52 inch 1080p HDTV using an RGB connection so it doesn't look like fucking shit. Thanks for your help.

Freakin' weird. Never heard of that, I thought Sharp only did the Twin Fami. I assume it's officially licensed then?
As far as I know, the disk system has a wired connector that sits on top of the Fami. Looks from the video like it would work, physically at least. I can't see why it wouldn't be compatible.
How would this help the picture on an HDTV, though? The problem lies not with any connections, but with the resolution the NES and other old systems output vs the fixed displays of modern TVs.

Everything I have hooked up to my HDTV looks fantastic. It's all thanks to the XRGB-3 upscaler. Upscaling is nice but equally as important is the RGB port it has. Super Famicom, Saturn and Wondermega all look pretty much perfect thanks to using RGB cables. The Dreamcast with VGA looks perfect as well. I have tried hooking up consoles with S-video and normal composite cables but they look so bad I can't stand it. Even with the upscaling, they still look like shit. Bottom line is, using high quality cables with upscaling makes anything look fantastic on a modern day HDTV. The XRGB-3 even helps with reducing input lag since it sends the HDTV a native resolution image. The only reason to have an old SDTV around is for light gun games, or for consoles that don't output RGB, such as the PC-FX.RadarScope1 wrote:Freakin' weird. Ah! I have been coveting one of those for a very long time. So you can vouch for their quality, eh? I would love to try one out, but a few hundred bucks is a lot to take a chance on something I've never seen in action. It almost sounds too good to be true, though. Where did you get yours?Inazuma wrote:It's all thanks to the XRGB-3 upscaler.

I can attest to the quality of the XRGB-3 as well, though I personally feel that the S-video and composite stuff looks really good on B1 mode. It might be that my TV handles the VGA output really well and doesn't do any processing, so the picture looks just as good as it did on my old CRTs. At some point I do plan to upgrade all my stuff to RGB cables, though. I've only had a couple of problems with my XRGB so far. The first is when I was playing DQVII and some of the enemies did an attack that made the screen flash white rapidly the video would desync and return to normal almost immediately. The second is that my Neo Geo doesn't play too nice with it. I've tried the component->dsub adapter as well as the official RGB cable and both of them have some distortion at the top.RadarScope1 wrote:Ah! I have been coveting one of those for a very long time. I talked about it a bit more here, where I also mention where I purchased it.

Wait, the X-RGB can handle the PS2's 'Sync on Green' RGB signal?MrPopo wrote:I can attest to the quality of the XRGB-3 as well, though I personally feel that the S-video and composite stuff looks really good on B1 mode. i dont see why it wouldn't be since the ram adapter is shaped like a famicom game(but flat at the top)
the only problem i could see happening is that it might not fit properly because of the switch that changes it into famicom mode...but to me it looks like it would fit
i cant tell you 100 percent sure since 300 bucks for a titler is a bit out of my price range

I bought mine from the only place I could find that had it. I think MrPopo got his from the same place.RadarScope1 wrote:Ah! I have been coveting one of those for a very long time. I think it was around $350-$500 but I can't remember the exact price. Expensive but worth every penny imo. It all depends on how important quality is to you.

Here is an excellent page all about the XRGB and other similar products. This guy seems to know his stuff. There is a nice guide for the XRGB in here if you scroll down some. Since it's a Japanese product, all the menus and options are in Japanese so if you are unfamiliar with the language, this should help you a lot when you buy it.
