General Emulation Question for PSP

Post by Betamax001 »

If heard talk about running an emulator on a PSP. This sounds pretty sweet and am curious how this works. I'm not sure what system I would like to emulate. Probably SNES or Game Boy because I cant find my GB games and my non Pokemon games were pretty much SNES ports.

PSP can run a bunch of emulators. My PSP is running emulators for the following
Gameboy/Game Gear/ Sega Master System
Gameboy Advance
NES
SNES
Genesis/Sega CD
and if can play PSone games.

You have to get custom firmware installed to run the homebrew emulators and other homebrew programs.

Yeah, PSP emulation is quite solid. As mentioned all you have to do is install custom firmware and the rest is a breeze.

http://pspcustomfirmware.com/ wouldn't be a bad place to look.

It looks like there is 3 different firmwares. Which one is the best for the PSP 3000?
NES, SNES, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GCN, Wii, PS3, 360, GB, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, PSP 3000, and 3DS XL

You better take this nice and slow. Do a lot of research on installing custom firmwares first.

Installing custom firmwares itself is complicated enough and risky, as you could end up bricking your psp just by installing the wrong version or installing the right version without the previous right version (i.e. you can't go straight from 1.5 official to 5.00 m33 instantly)....

...but you need to also do a bit of googling on how to use the chickhen exploit for the PSP 3000. I only have a psp-1000 so I have no experience on the matter. But goodluck.

Woah....well I dont wanna brick my PSP....that would be bad. I didn't know it would be that compilcated to install a custom firmware. Though I'm sure it's worth it.

I believe Gen is the one you want. As you can see, you're going to want to go through this process carefully. Poke around google and I'm sure you can find thorough guides and perhaps videos to take you through the process without harming your PSP.

If you plan on modding a PSP with ease I'd get rid of the 3000. The 1000 and 2000 versions are MUCH easier to mod. I have a 2000 modded version and it was pretty easy once you have a pandora battery. And yeah, its so worth it. I've read that the 3000 is much more difficult to mod than previous versions. Good luck man.
